Where can I get proper blackout curtains that aren't expensive? Want to decorate whole room eventually

Just ignore the troll, do what you want in your own house. Most hotels have blackout lining so clearly many people like it. I prefer to not have blackout blinds or curtains myself in my bedroom because I like waking up early but my daughters' bedroom faces east and so they do have blackout lining in their curtains. Funnily enough they cope fine when they sleep in tents or rooms without blackout fabric and I like the extra insulation it gives us.

@SlipperyLizard I've tried all kinds of eye masks. Current favourite is a velvet one that came in some kind of a Christmas gift set from M&S or Boots.

I find it very odd that natural light is different. At the moment we sleep with a dim night light all night as we have a baby, no problem. Sun comes in, wide awake.

We have ones from dunelm, kids have fitted blackout blinds from bloc blinds. We all sleep better in dark rooms.

It is any light for me @CheeseWisely before the sleep mask if I stayed in a hotel I’d have to go round turning everything with even a teeny light off (like a TV standby light), or I’d wake in the night and the glow would disturb me getting back to sleep.

I think the key with the silk ones for me is they have Velcro so you can adjust to the right fit, I’d previously tried ones with elasticated straps which were a complete no.

Are you planning for something?
Do you know something we don't?

My grandparents had these at every window and said they got fined by the ARP man if he could see light from outside.

Dunelm or b&m do great black out ones they also have a room darkening curtain pole that stops light coming in the sides of the curtains... game changer
