To feel let down by Sandi Toksvig's Bake Off Comments?

Sandi has given a few interviews saying her brain was atrophying on Bake Off and she had to leave for her own sanity. I know she's a comedian so her words are partly for effect - but it's so disrespectful to the people who love the show.

Richard Osman tweeted "I honestly don't think you should present shows you wouldn't watch" and I think that's right. She's really gone down in my estimation.

It would have shown more integrity to not take the huge pay cheque in the first place rather than phone it in for 3 years and then rubbish the show that's been paying your mortgage for you.

For the record, it's quite possible to be a very intelligent and well educated person and still be interested in cake - or at least, in other people, which is what that role is really about.

This. I used to like her but now I have an aversion to her. I can't bear smart asses and she comes off as being sarcastic rather than intellectual now.

I'm not a fan of Bake off but I think she came off as churlish and unpleasant. I feel very differently about her now.

It gets worse though - She also runs a 'Women's Equality Party' that doesn't stand up for Lesbians or Women. In fact Sandi ignores their cries for help completely - fingers in ears - and has a cosy chat with her dear friend (male) who likes to scare teenage girls by undressing in the ladies loos.

It does seem like the kind of thing that is best left unsaid. But on the whole, the scripted comedy segments of GBBO are by far its weakest element, so it makes sense that it might have been as underwhelming to present them as it sometimes has been watching them.

Some of the hosts have been better than others, and from what I've seen, she wasn't one of best.

I love Gogglebox but I didn’t like her on it as she spoke down to her partner at times and I thought she was a bit of a bully.

That's a hard one.
When I watch her on QI I find her dry wit hilarious, but it doesn't translate to bake off. I don't find the humour on bake off overly funny though tbf apart from Noel Fielding who is wacky enough to do anything (found the Boosh when I was 15 which probs helped). I much prefer her on QI and don't think she was suited for the GBBO because she is just too dry and bake off requires silliness and innuendo as it's humour.

I find it seriously very odd that you would frame your feelings about this as "let down".

I read her comments and just thought she's more of an arse than I realised. I don't feel personally "let down" by her.

She hosted a pub quiz at my dcs primary school because her step child was there. She couldn't have been more disinterested, so I went off her years ago.

I didn’t read the article you’re quoting - I’m doing something now but the article I saw was in the Sunday Times on Sunday and didn’t say anything about BO being wonderful. i’ll post screenshots later

She occasionally came into my former workplace and she was so bloody rude I went right off her, even before her genderwank opinions. Her wife was lovely though.

I used to quite look up to her 🙃
