To ask what suck me in underwear is actually worth getting?

I am attending a wedding and seeing a lot of people I haven't seen in a very long time. I never make much of an effort through being quite time poor and I'm usually content with just being clean and cosy but I want to go all out. I have found my dress, lovely shoes and jewellery but I need to know- what underwear to go under my dress? I'm not a lingerie creep I promise, I don't want sexy reccomendations I want to know what will make my figure look fantastic and what Bridget Jones knickers there are on the market that actually do what they say on the tin?

Sorry for posting in aibu I need the traffic!

I think Spanx are excellent. The long shorts high waist ones.

Are they!? Thank you so much I did have a look at them and wondered if they were as good as they say they are! I have a dress which is tight around my lower tummy. I don't mind my tummy usually but I tend to bloat quite a bit with alcohol- are they good to suck it all in? 😂

M&S shape wear is awesome. One of the underboob slips sucks you in and smooths you out.

Doggymummar · 10/10/2024 17:53

Never had better than Spanx

I think so! My biggest bugbear with shapewear is that it can shift and roll down at the waist, creating bulges. But I find the Spanx stay put very well. Getting it in the right size is the key to making sure it stays put.

Depends how tight the dress is? No shapewear can really make something fit that doesn’t actually fit.

I asked this exact question before; mine is the lower stomach after having my child lol - in the end I went with Marks & Spencer firm support no VPL thong

Perfect underneath my fitted bridesmaid dress and only £12! Had to buy online though as the size 8 was always out of stock in store

Doesn't it roll down?

Not if it's one of the ones with straps--like a slip dress but cut out around the boobs. I really like my one, much less wrestling than spanx when you need the loo!

AnnaMagnani · 10/10/2024 19:21

That's the one I have @1000umbrellas

Definitely not sexy as a weird underboob dress but no rolling anywhere.

Not sure if you have enough time, but I went to India, picked up a dose of dysentery (not on purpose) and lost an amazing amount of weight.

IcedPurple · 10/10/2024 19:25

I've never found a shapewear slip which doesn't roll up. Far better for me are the pull in knickers which go right up to your bra, You can get them online quite cheaply. They aren't going to actually make you 'slimmer' or take inches off your waist. You need an old fashioned corset for that. However, they do give you a smoother line and hold in belly 'wobbles' to some extent.

I love the responses thank you! I'm going to probably try all suggestions and I will remember to come back and let you know what I've gone for! I have dreamy visions of me eating 3 courses at the wedding breakfast and looking like a svelte super model with magic knickers on in photos

LOL I'd probably steer clear but this mad me laugh as it reminded me of when my mum was telling all her friends how fantastic it was to get norovirus before Christmas and lose a few pounds

I order mine from TikTok shop, think the brand was Polly? They’re amazing, no rolling, shorts as bottoms that comfortably roll up higher if needs be, smooths everything out. I’ve been dressing ‘baggy’ for years to cover my poor baby-wrecked stomach, I’ve finally been happy enough to wear things that cling to my stomach area again./

Ladylalaboo1 · 10/10/2024 19:32

The best I've had in a while were SKIMS - pricey but absolutely amazing for me, really suck you in and shape but not the uncomfortable feeling you sometimes get with other shape wear!! I have the shorts body suit set and it's really good as dip really low so can wear a low back dress x

LostTheMarble · 10/10/2024 19:34

Sorry, brand name was Ploppydolly, his knows how I’d forget that 🤣

TimeForBedSaidZebadee · 10/10/2024 19:43

I have tried everything over the years. Couldn't get on with anything. They were so uncomfortable and made me look like a stuffed sausage.
Finally, I decided to invest in Spanx. I've got the pants that finish under my bust and go down above my knees. They cost £70 but when I think of how much I've spent on cheaper versions I'm gutted I didn't get them sooner.
Really comfortable, I can breathe, and my figure looks great. I can't recommend them enough.
