Weird chest pain today

I'm having this weird chest pain today and I don't know what to make of it.

I noticed it earlier when taking a depth breath. It's quite sore. The top of my back feels a bit sore and then this soreness, especially when breathing in.

But also just feels generally sore.

I don't really think it warrants the doc yet.

Has anyone else had this ? It's mainly sore when taking deep breaths.

You need to go to A and E.

Birminghamx · 09/10/2024 15:41

Hopefully someone with some medical expertise will answer. I would ring 111, chest pain of course can be linked to the heart although it's likely to have a much less dramatic cause, but we don't know.

StudioCreate · 09/10/2024 15:41

It could be anything from slight inflammation or a pulled muscle to a heart attack or PE but it needs checking in A and E.

olderbutwiser · 09/10/2024 15:43

If you phone 111 you’ll likely get an ambulance because you’ve used the magic words chest pain. Similarly if you call the GP they are likely to send you to A&E. Anyone you call/see will want to do an ecg. May as well pack up your phone charger and a book and pop down to A&E.

Waterboatlass · 09/10/2024 15:48

I mean, loads of people will have had chest pains but nobody can advise what it is. Best to get it checked tbh as it's new. Hopefully nothing but nobody here can confirm. It's a really busy area of the body, so to speak. Could be a lot of causes .

Showbel · 09/10/2024 15:51

New chest pain should always be investigated by a doctor

BabyR · 09/10/2024 15:52

I would ring 111. They may get you an appointment to be seen.

weeurd · 09/10/2024 15:54

I'm also just sore around my back, all around my ribs. I just sat on the sofa and I am just sore around my rib area at the back.

It could be costochondritis, pleurisy, or something else. Don't try to diagnose it yourself, its best to go to A&E or a walk in centre in case its serious.

LostTheMarble · 09/10/2024 15:57

Reads like pericarditis, but I’m not a health professional. Is there an out of hours part of your local hospital you could go to?

weeurd · 09/10/2024 15:59

I have MS, maybe this could be the MS hug if anyone is familiar.

I really don't want to go to a and e 😢

I keep needing to yawn

Chest pain always needs checking out, at the very least call 111

Ponoka7 · 09/10/2024 16:03

Don't bother with 111, they'll tell you to go to A&E. A walk in would send you there as well. Pack for A&E, pick up a meal deal if you can and go while it's still early, you might get out before 1am if you go now.

whingebenefits · 09/10/2024 16:04

Could be Covid. I had it recently and felt it first as sharp pinching chest pain.

There's a virus in my house. Both my kids have been ill. I don't have any other symptoms at present.

Please go and get checked out OP - I had this a few weeks ago, I actually put it off for a few days before eventually ending up in A&E where I was given a very stern telling off for not taking it seriously.
I only had to wait an hour and a half altogether (and that's including ECG, blood tests, everything AND I'm in a big major city).
Mine ended up being costochondritis but it should never be ignored, please do get checked.

icouldholditwithacobweb · 09/10/2024 16:05

Could just be a virus, I get a similar pain sometimes like you say, most noticeable when breathing in. It usually either is the start of a virus or lasts for a day and then goes again so I figure my immune system was just fighting something off. Only you know if it's worth going to A&E for though.

Waterboatlass · 09/10/2024 16:06

It could be MS, COVID, musculoskeletal, pericarditis, but the thing it's that it's new chest pain. Nobody is going to advise you not to have it checked. You could try 111

Incakewetrust · 09/10/2024 16:07

Tbh there's no real point in calling 111 for chest pain as they will always send you to a&e.
I'd suggest to heading there

Ellerby83 · 09/10/2024 16:07

Definitely a &e. 111 will just send you there anyway.

The wait may not be as bad as you think. We have had two visits there in the last couple of months. I got seen within 50 mins, DH in 2 hours.

DonnaBanana · 09/10/2024 16:10

Does it get any worse if you exert yourself? Like running up the stairs etc. That would be a red flag. Breathless? Sweating? If not it’s statistically less likely to be anything immediately sinister but you need to go find out.

That’s quite a specific diagnosis for someone who is not a healthcare professional!

No it's just when I take a deep breath, which I feel like I'm always doing now and I keep needing to yawn. Upper back aches a bit.

I'm guessing covid. Mine I had recently was like that. However it could also be something in need of urgent medical attention so I'd call 111
