How much do you give your teen for lunch

I'm spending £5 a day for lunch at secondary school
but it's now discouraging from eating breakfast and I think contributing to unhealthy eating habits

just wondering what others do/pay

£5 for lunch is standard here.

Hoglet70 · 08/10/2024 05:04

DS probably spent that. He wouldn't eat breakfast anyway so that was never an issue. Lots of people don't like breakfast.

I stopped giving mine lunch money because it was spent on chocolate and crisps

MumChp · 08/10/2024 05:18

Packed lunch. I dont spend £100 a month on a teenager's lunch. And most of the lunch to buy is crap.

Mumdiva99 · 08/10/2024 05:23

My teenage boys have packed lunch - half carton soup, sandwhich, fruit (x2), biscuit, sometimes crisps. The youngest still buys a snack for £1.50ish every day. They are often in school from 8-4:30 and eat a good breakfast porridge or eggs.

DD packs her own lunch. Normally leftovers and fruit.

TribeofFfive · 08/10/2024 05:35

£5 a day here too.

UmopapIsdn · 08/10/2024 05:38

Jesus. Couldn’t afford £5 a day! I make mine a packed lunch. Queues take too long so he doesn’t want a school lunch anyway. The school meals are £2.40 so that’s what he’d get if he did eat in the canteen.

DoAWheelie · 08/10/2024 05:56

It depends on the prices in your kids school doesn't it? If a meal is £2 then £5 is too much. If a meal is £7 then it's not enough.

Anicecumberlandsausage · 08/10/2024 06:02

Packed lunch or a thermos of hot food with bread, either leftovers or soup heated up that morning.

She despises the food at school, the queues are too long and it's too expensive. She's going through a carb phase and seems to be a bottomless pit right now. I don't think school lunches would satisfy her.

Two secondary teens. Packed lunch, oldest makes her own sandwich etc. They take a snack from home.
