Who’s the CF here?

I won’t say who is who as I really want a balanced opinion here! Who’s the CF here, if anyone?

House sold for £10k over asking price. Sellers have an almost new fridge freezer. Advised buyers the fridge freezer isn’t included in sale. Buyers noticed the fridge freezer for sale online, reduced since it was listed 2 weeks ago and offered to pay approximately 20% less than the listed price. Sellers declined as have other people interested.

Is anyone a CF here?

YABU - seller is unreasonable
YANBU - buyer is unreasonable

No one. People sell things online, people make offers on those items.

Bavariamaria · 07/10/2024 16:13

No one? Sellers not obligated to sell, buyers have asked for less than the listed price?

Sparklfairy · 07/10/2024 16:14

No one. Sellers want the best price for it and don't want to 'settle' selling it to the buyers if there's a chance they can get more. If it still hasn't sold for the price they want closer to exchange they'll probably sell it to the buyers.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 07/10/2024 16:14

Buyers not unreasonable to ask, sellers not unreasonable to say no.

YouLookinSusBro · 07/10/2024 16:14

No one is a CF. But if I was the seller I would likely have just accepted the buyers offer for an easy life, and guaranteed sale.

Londonrach1 · 07/10/2024 16:14

No one. Sellers can sell it online if they want.

ShillyShallySherbet · 07/10/2024 16:15

Nobody is being unreasonable, you can offer to pay the maximum amount you’re willing to pay for the item and they are within their rights to refuse that offer if they’re hoping to get the price they’re asking for the item.

Viviennemary · 07/10/2024 16:15

Nobody. But I suppose the sellers are being a bit greedy as they are getting £10k over the asking price for the house.

BeMintBee · 07/10/2024 16:16

Noone really but odd that sellers didn’t offer buyers first refusal as surely it would be easier?

MounjaroUser · 07/10/2024 16:16

No one is being cheeky. The buyers offered a price. The seller either doesn't want to sell or doesn't want to sell it at that price - it's up to them what they do with it.

Yeah agreed

If I were the buyer I'd tell them to take it away and buy the new one. You never know what's going to happen with someone else's white goods, whereas if you buy new you'll have a guarantee. The difference isn't that great anyway.

Foundanotherwrinkle · 07/10/2024 16:18

Not sure this comes under the term cheeky fucker. Nothing cheeky about wanting to get maximum money when it doesn't really affect anyone else

Tiswa · 07/10/2024 16:20

The 10k over the asking price is actually not relevant - the house is being bought and presumably the offer was made

fridge/freezers are rarely included as our easy to move (we took ours and our washing machine and if they are it would be as extra

so they are perfectly reasonable to sell it - it is perfectly ok to make an offer ans say no

memyselfi · 07/10/2024 16:20

It's all good.
I'm dying to know who has the problem now though Grin

Trickedbyadoughnut · 07/10/2024 16:20

No one's cheeky. The seller's can ask whatever price they want and the buyers can make whatever offer they like!

No-one is being cheeky.

How much is the fridge freezer that is being sold. Would be easier to just go with the new buyers and not have the hassle of dealing with other people.

memyselfi · 07/10/2024 16:23

For what it's worth I bet you're the buyer and that's why you mentioned them getting a good price for the house , which imo is completely irrelevant but it's rankled you.

birdsinarow · 07/10/2024 16:24

I don’t understand who wouldn’t want a brand new fridge and freezer with a guarantee, instead of old ones that could break whenever for just 20% less. It would be almost stupid.

Claloulat · 07/10/2024 16:25

It's a bit greedy of the sellers who are getting 10% above asking price.
If I was the buyer and really wanted the house I might just tell them to take the fridge freezer with them and I would buy a new one.

JMSA · 07/10/2024 16:27

Seller is unreasonable. Their stinginess and meanness are unbelievable and rather embarrassing, frankly.

Hatty65 · 07/10/2024 16:29

No one. The seller has decided on the figure they want and is under no obligation to accept a lower offer for the fridge.

Anyone who wants it can pay the requested price or look elsewhere.

Detchi · 07/10/2024 16:30

If it's a standalone then absolutely no one, as long as buyers politely take no for an answer.

If it's a built-in I think sellers are being a bit cheeky. Usually the price is agreed before the detailed F&F list is sent, and I would absolutely expect a built in fridge to be included when I offer.

stopringingme · 07/10/2024 16:33

No one is a CF

The buyers can offer, and the sellers can decline.

House selling for £10k more is irrelevant.

ailan · 07/10/2024 16:36

If it’s relevant, the fridge was listed for £250 and the buyers offered £200. It’s 1 year old.

This doesn’t affect the sale as the offer has already been accepted etc, I was just curious what the general consensus was!
