Who’s the CF here?

ailan · 07/10/2024 16:12

I won’t say who is who as I really want a balanced opinion here! Who’s the CF here, if anyone?

House sold for £10k over asking price. Sellers have an almost new fridge freezer. Advised buyers the fridge freezer isn’t included in sale. Buyers noticed the fridge freezer for sale online, reduced since it was listed 2 weeks ago and offered to pay approximately 20% less than the listed price. Sellers declined as have other people interested.

Is anyone a CF here?

YABU - seller is unreasonable
YANBU - buyer is unreasonable

Neither. This is how people buy and sell online.

ailan · 07/10/2024 16:36

If it’s relevant, the fridge was listed for £250 and the buyers offered £200. It’s 1 year old.

This doesn’t affect the sale as the offer has already been accepted etc, I was just curious what the general consensus was!

They're still tight bastards. Their house goes for 10% over and they can't throw in a fridge or accept an offer on it?
They are unreal!

SophiaSW1 · 07/10/2024 16:42

No-one is

Els1e · 07/10/2024 16:42

Neither. However, I've always sold my white goods at a heavy discount price rather go through the hassle of moving them. So 20% off would seem fine to me.

Thfrog · 07/10/2024 16:44

No one is unreasonable. An offer was made. An offer was rejected. If the buyers of the house had offered the asking price and the sellers knew they were the buyers and discrimated against them for whatever weird reason then they would be unreasonable

JMSA · 07/10/2024 16:47

So, OP, are you going to tell us who you are?! Smile

widelegenes · 07/10/2024 16:47

memyselfi · 07/10/2024 16:20

It's all good.
I'm dying to know who has the problem now though Grin

I think OP is the buyer.

GirlOverboard123 · 07/10/2024 16:50

I mean, personally I would have very happily taken the £200 if I were the seller. But this isn’t a cheeky fucker situation. The fridge isn’t included in the house sale. What the sellers do with the fridge is their prerogative.

Scottishday · 07/10/2024 16:51

Non issue. However if I was the seller I would've given the buyer the choice to purchase the fridge freezer on the selling fixtures and fittings form. That's standard.

However if the buyer already paid 10% over the asking the price, the seller should have reallt sold the fridge for the 20% less than the listed price, if not thrown it into the house sale for free.

On balance if anything I think the seller is the CF here!

Thfrog · 07/10/2024 16:51

memyselfi · 07/10/2024 16:23

For what it's worth I bet you're the buyer and that's why you mentioned them getting a good price for the house , which imo is completely irrelevant but it's rankled you.

Same

Scottishday · 07/10/2024 16:52

I reckon the OP is the seller.

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/10/2024 16:54

No ones a CF.

Seller has offers of asking price, and clearly doesn't mind the additional faff of buyer coming to collect.

House buyer could have considered this possibility, and could have considered that having the fridge already in situ is worth that extra 50 quid, and didn't.

So potentially, housebuyer is a bit of a silly nitwit, but no ones actually a CF.

ailan · 07/10/2024 17:00

CF was probably the wrong term! I agree that each party has the right to offer a price or sell an item for whatever price they like.

We’re the buyers and felt that a slight reduction would have made up for the fact that it would save them the hassle of finding someone to buy and move the fridge out of the house, rather than just leaving it with us having bought it. We didn’t expect them to leave anything just because we had paid £10k more. We weren’t offered the option to purchase it initially. We were told the sellers were taking it, then saw it on Gumtree a week later when we were shopping ourselves. They’ve also reduced it multiple times since it was listed. But fair play to them, I hope they do get it sold for the price they’re after as we’ll be buying a new one of our choice now! :)

Anyway, it’s no biggie - I was just curious as my partner thought it was awful of them whereas I was a bit more on the fence!

Is that it?! Fgs you're BOTH unreasonable bickering about this. I thought it was going to be a top end American fridge freezer by the way you're both carrying on Grin

No one is a CF. What makes you think they are?

I'm with you and your partner on this. 100% on your side.
As if you couldn't already tell Grin

Oh I know! 😂To be fair, we haven’t gone back and forth about it. We just thought we’d offer a bit less, save them the hassle of shifting it and then we wouldn’t have to get one delivered but to be honest we’d rather choose our own anyway!

OP posts:
Dotto · 07/10/2024 17:30

If I was the seller it would sting that the buyers had made a low offer on it, but I'd probably have either accepted or counter-offered, as it's a right faff moving a massive fridge-freezer, what with water dropping out of the bottom of it and those stupid nut feet dragging and damaging the floors, potentially

BibbityBobbityToo · 07/10/2024 17:33

No one, the offer is clear and can be accepted or declined as required.

(I wouldn't pay extra for a 2nd hand freezer though).

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/10/2024 17:41

No ones a CF. I would probably accept if I was the seller as it saves shipping and other potential messing about.

Skybluepinky · 07/10/2024 18:31

No one.

Lovelysummerdays · 07/10/2024 18:32

It’s fine to offer, fine to say no. I wouldn’t say anyone is a cf.

PicaK · 07/10/2024 18:38

Honestly, for the sake of £50 you've created bad feeling. In people currently in charge of your house. It would have been worth it to save the hassle of getting a new one delivered. Not CF but not a wise move

user2848502016 · 07/10/2024 18:41

Nobody is really, personally if I was the seller I would probably have haggled and offered 10% off for the convenience of just being able to leave the fridge freezer in the house.
But they're under no obligation to reduce the price at all

pizzaHeart · 07/10/2024 18:43

No one.
and 10k over asking is absolutely irrelevant there.
