Who’s the CF here?

I won’t say who is who as I really want a balanced opinion here! Who’s the CF here, if anyone?

House sold for £10k over asking price. Sellers have an almost new fridge freezer. Advised buyers the fridge freezer isn’t included in sale. Buyers noticed the fridge freezer for sale online, reduced since it was listed 2 weeks ago and offered to pay approximately 20% less than the listed price. Sellers declined as have other people interested.

Is anyone a CF here?

YABU - seller is unreasonable
YANBU - buyer is unreasonable

Nobody is BU. Anyone can make an offer, any seller can decline an offer.

If it’s relevant, the fridge was listed for £250 and the buyers offered £200. It’s 1 year old.

This doesn’t affect the sale as the offer has already been accepted etc, I was just curious what the general consensus was!

Wow I was expecting it to be some American style uber-fridge listed for £2.5k. For £250 I would have included it in the sale as the seller or at least taken the buyers offer.

No one. People sell things online, people make offers on those items.

This. Completely.

autienotnaughty · 07/10/2024 19:07

I'm guessing your buyer. The sellers should have offered to buyers first

iamtheblcksheep · 07/10/2024 19:09

in this situation you give the seller what they want and you have a fridge from moving in. Who can be bothered with the fuckary of having no where to put milk when you have so much other shit to do. Why are you arguing the toss over £50.

When you buy a new one this one goes in the garage to store all the crap you don’t immediately need…And alcohol

ailan · 07/10/2024 19:22

I don’t think we’ve created a ‘bad feeling’ or argued over it or anything like that. It’s not like they offered to sell us it first and we bartered them down. They didn’t offer it, we just happened upon it online and thought as they’d reduced it a couple of times we’d offer a bit lower and it would save us both a bit of hassle as it’s already in situ. If I was the seller, I’d have thought ‘phew, that saves me having to try and get this thing sold and I can just leave it where it is’ 🤣 we’re first time buyers and excited to be choosing all of our new things - if we had really really wanted their 2nd hand fridge, we’d have paid the £250.

No one is a CF. But if I was the seller I would likely have just accepted the buyers offer for an easy life, and guaranteed sale.

This, especially as house has an offer over the asking price

Arlanymor · 07/10/2024 19:32

Price of the house is immaterial. You were told it wasn’t included, saw it online, made an offer, it was rejected. Bit of a non story really isn’t it?

Chowtime · 07/10/2024 19:34

no one is being cheeky.

It's quite difficult to sell white goods second hand privately as people always assume that people only sell them because there is something wrong with them. Because they are so expensive to begin with, so why would someone sell it (apart from a house move of course).

Actually, on that basis, they do sound greedy. I'd be secretely hoping they couldn't sell it.

Trebolle · 07/10/2024 21:57

£250? That'll be shit. Buy a new one. Most cost way more but that's for a good reason.

You've done nothing wrong. People say they haven't done anything wrong either. But in my humble opinion anyway, it's about doing what's right and fair. You already paid generously for the house and they should have thrown in the fridge or, at the very least, accepted your offer with good grace.
Honestly though, don't be surprised if they end up leaving it anyway to save hassle. It is rare to see a secondhand fridge going for that much money, so they may not get a sale.

HollyKnight · 08/10/2024 01:53

The person who buys it will collect it. You wouldn't really be saving them any bother. In fact it would be the other way around because it would save you having to pay a delivery charge for a new fridge. You were being chancers.

RawBloomers · 08/10/2024 02:17

No one’s been wrong in their actions here. Perfectly legitimate to offer what you are prepared to pay and for them to hold out for a price they think they can get.

In terms of attitude - your DP judging the other party as “awful” for not jumping at your underbid, as though they owe you in some way. And your reasoning that they should be prepared to loose out on the price because it will be easier for them but not thinking you should loose out because it will be easier for you - that’s, in a sense, cheeky fucker attitude or, at least, somewhat entitled.

Other party might also have a poor attitude towards you and that’s why they turned down your offer - but we haven’t heard their reasoning so no way to know if they’re just doing their best to get the best price they can or if they’re gleefully trying to stiff you in some way (hard to see how) just because they think can since you’re buying their house.

Seashellssanctuary · 08/10/2024 06:20

They've done you a favour. £200 for a fridge without a warranty is a gamble at best

LoveTheRainAndSun · 08/10/2024 06:26

They're not wrong for choosing to sell higher than you're willing to pay. Their choice to make. But as a seller, I think I'd have just taken your lower offer as a goodwill gesture.

Teaandtoast12 · 08/10/2024 06:36

I am in the process of buying a house and the sellers have said they will sell us the fridge (haven’t given a price yet) but I am willing to pay slightly more than I would if it was on resale website because I have the luxury of it already being there and no faff needed with delivery/moving it etc but everything does add up when moving so completely understand it depends person to person.

Threewheeler1 · 08/10/2024 06:46

If you were buying my house, you could have everything that weighed over a kilo...
There's a steep hill and then 15 large steps to get in and out, and after 14 years of lugging shite up and down, I've decided to leave with just a holdall 😁

JustWalkingTheDogs · 08/10/2024 06:53

No one is being unreasonable. You paid what you thought the house was worth, this doesn't include anything inside the house. The seller can do that thy want with their belongings.

BoBoBigUns · 08/10/2024 06:53

Well ....lol If they are mug enough to pay 10k over asking price they they are mug enough to pay full whack for the fridge freezer lol

BusyMum47 · 08/10/2024 06:55

Sparklfairy · 07/10/2024 17:01

Is that it?! Fgs you're BOTH unreasonable bickering about this. I thought it was going to be a top end American fridge freezer by the way you're both carrying on Grin

Me too! Who the * quibbles over £50 on a second hand fridge when buying a house?! 🤣
