Retraining as a reiki practitioner

Mydogpongs · 07/10/2024 12:48

I woke up again this morning so unhappy about work, my boss, my workload, my bank balance, time away from my family and home and decided I need to do something about it.

I got a very odd ball of energy feeling my tummy when the thought of training in reiki popped into my head. Now I'm not a hippy or anything and have never had reiki and i know little to nothing about it but I can't shift this feeling. It feels like it's the universe telling me why has ut taken so long to realise this is what I'm meant to do!

Would I be mad to do this? Could I make a living doing this? I'd there anyone willing to give me the lowdown on this sort of work? Any pointers or reality checks are welcome but please be kind.

Anyone I know who practices reiki is very depressed or anxious. I don't know what spirit they invite to work through them but it doesn't seem peaceful behind the scenes. Beware. A reiterated practitioner I know was making plans to kill herself at one point.

The benefits of simple touch are scientifically proven . For example kangaroo care in NICU hugely improves outcomes.

Simple touch is not horseshit.

The idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive is horseshit.

It can make you feel very centred and calm. It is different from say deep tissue massage. Totally different. It can stil! work just placing your hands above the person in various positions. As well as distant healing.

Someone placing their hands above me is supposed to feel centered and calm?
Utter twaddle

Unless you have actually experienced this people are not in any position to comment.

I underwent Reiki healing as part of therapy for CSA. It was rubbish and I despised the woman doing it. She said she had a Masters in Reiki and foolishly I thought that meant she was university educated Grin

I think she probably said she was a reiki master. 😅

I have experienced it, with an open mind, and felt nothing.
I was open to the idea- I can accept things, including people, have a frequency. I can accept some frequencies could affect a person beneficially. But I did not experience anything- not an emotion nor a sensation, no kind of reaction.
And then to say you can do it over Teams.... c'mon!!!! The practitioner can emit their physical frequency over the internet. Nah.

There are a lot of things I have not and will not experience and I can still think they are nonsense,

Caltech has already transmitted energy wirelessly from space to earth.

Many things are possible that we don't yet understand but we are getting there.

Clear evidence of Reiki and Homeopathy working then

😂😂of course it is!

It's definitely possible to transmit energy wirelessly from space to Earth - the Sun's been doing it non-stop for 4.6 billion years.

A friend's sister was into Reiki. She felt her gynaecological symptoms could be treated by Reiki and delayed going to her GP for some time. She is much missed by her family.

HangingOver · 09/10/2024 16:22

Was going to suggest reiki-cum-palm reading

Sounds disgusting.

I'm not entirely convinced that solar energy converted into electricity and then into microwaves is

a) possible to do through the power of one's mind and drawing symbols in the air like Dr Strange
b) going to result in particularly desirable outcomes if directed into the human body where it is possible to generate them (as in with actual technology, not woo)

Caltech developing a technology to make access to solar energy more reliable/doesn't require cables that would be very useful if somebody wanted to blow the fuck out of a place or people by directing microwaves at them makes sense, though. Yeah, course it'll be researched/funded by countries that just want to send power to isolated areas and not anyone who likes the idea of putting an entire area of annoyingly independent people/their water or fuel supplies in an invisible microwave oven.

Sheldon Cooper is having conniptions right now.

I did a reiki course and loved it! Even just the relaxation and breathing is great for anxiety. Good luck!

Naunet · 09/10/2024 20:17

I’ve got the power! I was gifted it for my birthday by my step mum, did a 3 day course she ran as a reiki master, I’d never shown any interest in it, don’t believe in it at all, but for some reason she thought that was the perfect gift for my 21st! It’s a load of rubbish, but I will say it can be fairly relaxing in a kind of meditative way. She doesn’t make a living out of it though, as well as doing reiki sessions and running courses, she also does acupuncture (her main income) and some other weird ‘therapy’ that I can’t remember the name of, but it s really out there. If you train in doing reiki, you’ll probably need other side hustles too.
