Taking an object to an interview

Stickseas0n · 05/10/2024 09:21

Okay, where do I start
I've just had a job interview confirmed and they've asked me to bring an object that best reflects my personality 😂
Never heard of this before
What does one bring? 🤔
Not strictly an AIBU but can I have some ideas please!

Oh God I cannot stand this kind of crap.

If it is retail be prepared for them to ask you to sell the item to them.

Stickseas0n · 05/10/2024 09:25

It's only a seasonal position
In a retail shop is all I'll say incase they find my thread 😬😂

A sign telling them to get over themselves?

zzplea · 05/10/2024 10:19

I think there was a similar thread a few years ago. I can't remember the suggestions but the ones I thought more useful were based on objects that could express why you would be a suitable worker, rather than expressing your personal life/likes. Keep in mind they are assessing you for employment, not friendship and socialising. Unless it's a role were you need to 'perform' and be outgoing.

We never hear the interviewers' perspective on these crap questions, so maybe some are impressed by the candidates' level of zany responses.

Tel12 · 05/10/2024 10:19

A packet of biscuits. Because you like to share and they always cheer things up. Then leave them to it. At least they won't forget you. Then again it could be seen as a bribe. 😁

TwistedWonder · 05/10/2024 10:19

No suggestions OP other than Ive interviewed over 1000 candidates in my career and I think I’d resign rather than deal with this sort of nonsense.

I might be old and grumpy now but I’ve always managed to employ the best person fit the role without resorting to wanky navel gazing bring your whole self to work BS like this. It’s not a bit of fun, it’s excruciating for both the candidate and the interviewer forced into this nonsense by some muppet from head office thinking they’re oh so wacky

WD40 - everyone knows I can reliably solve most problems

I would love to say I had some divine inspiration for this, but I genuinely just looked up and saw some WD40 on my shelf!

So I'd say, have a look round your house and see what things you have that you could make up some bullshit about!!

This , and a roll of Duck tape, because if one doesn't fix the issue the other one (generally) does.
Ie you can fix most problems

I agree with pp tho, why the hell do employers do this kind of thing.

Neveragain35 · 05/10/2024 10:22

A friend of mine had this. She took in some family
photos and got the job. The other candidate took in a surfboard- didn’t get the job and also had to carry a surfboard around all day!

CitizenofGotham · 05/10/2024 10:24

How about your phone? Say it represents you as your are sociable and provide solutions to problems, you can calculate stuff (depending on the job) and everybody needs one (so hire me😉) Although maybe put it more eloquently than me!

Take a dildo.

You’re my kind of interviewee, @RocketPanda 😄

Or start quoting Blake:

To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour

Vibrator

Shows you're hard working, always buzzing about and keen to get stuck in.

Haha, quality

ConcernedOfClapham · 05/10/2024 10:38

Stickseas0n · 05/10/2024 09:23

I'm a friendly person, get on well with everyone, reliable, will gladly be over worked 😂

Take a candle and, during the interview, light it at both ends.

You could get that last part across by bringing a door mat, perhaps with the word WELCOME on it.

Swissvisa · 05/10/2024 10:40

It would be my passport 😂 love to travel/meet new people, experience new things and I enjoy change. If you’re into sport you could take hockey stick/netball (team player)

NewDogOwner · 05/10/2024 10:40

What utter wank. This is humiliating in a professional situation.

Just this. I am cringing for you x

FerienInLipizza · 05/10/2024 10:45

Take a random book.

Open it.

Say you are an open book.

Gwenhwyfar · 05/10/2024 10:46

I couldn't be doing with this bs. Unless the Job Centre know about the interview and you need it for your benefits, I'd cancel.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 05/10/2024 10:46

I wouldn't be going to the interview! Fuck that shit.

Oh my god is it the 80s?? I’m cringing soooo bad at this.

GoldenLegend · 05/10/2024 10:48

I’d take a piece of gold jewellery, tell them I had expensive tastes and ask if we could discuss the salary.

I mean they’re obvious twats so you may as well.

timenowplease · 05/10/2024 10:49

Bring an LED light bulb. It's superbright, eco friendly, very economical and lasts for 20,000 hours before needing to be replaced.
