Bizarre request - office perception

Yesterday, a senior member of the department asked me for a coffee. He asked me to speak to another sector head (the same level as me) in a different department to ask him to deliver this piece of work—which he’s hesitant to do. This is a bizarre request as we are not in the same department. I asked him why you are asking me to do this. He said you have a lot of influence over him; everyone knows. I said, "Aye?"
Again, we work in a serious/toxic banking environment, and this sector head and I chat. He comes to my desk, but we never have coffee, dinner, or lunch.

Why is he/others thinking this? We are both married

It’s a really stuck up place - very conservative. Hardly anyone speaks to anyone there.
