To see if any seasoned early morning exercisers are about?

I have decided to wake up a 5am every weekday and either be at the gym for 6 or be outside for a walk.

Today is day 1. I am drinking my coffee and my workout clothes are on the table ready for me to get changed.

Any one here awake ready for their morning exercise to give me some motivation and reasons why I'll learn to love this ?!

I do go to the gym and after each session I'm in such a good mood but getting there is a struggle especially after a day of work and kids stuff!

Morning! I am up and ready to leave for the gym at 5.45, to do a 6 a.m class. I started this routine in May and I absolutely love it, it's been life changing for me. I do this around 3 or 4 mornings a week, I love the feeling of having done my exercise for the day by 7, and it really sets me up for the day

hopingforthemillion · 04/10/2024 05:34

Not a seasoned early morning exerciser by any means, but I can do it when I put my mind to it. Kids have changed that over the past few years so I normally opt for extra sleep 😁
I am about to get up and ready for a run.
good luck and well done you for making a change 🙂

PrincessFluffyPants · 04/10/2024 05:35

I've just finished my routine. Your Future You will benefit I promise! You will be stronger, better posture and be able to breathe in a normal way when you are walking up the steepest hill in town. You will feel amazing after a few weeks. Ignore the darkness outside and concentrate on the New You.

Morning ! I’m just having a brew before i go to the gym- I have PT at 5.50am on Fridays. Don’t always love the get up esp. on dark mornings when its cold like today ( and worse to come as we move into winter) but the twin blessings of underactive thyroid and menopause ( I’m nearly 54) mean its the only way to keep in reasonable shape and protect my bones ( family history of osteoporosis).
I also have a senior level stressful job, so need to keep mentally sharp.
Well done OP- its definitely worth it, you’ll feel better once you’ve done it!

Dazzylazzy · 04/10/2024 05:43

Heading out for a run now. It’s dark and cold and much harder that heading out in the summer but I’ll regret it if I don’t go so off I go.

garlictwist · 04/10/2024 05:47

I have got up at 5am to exercise ever since I was 16. I am 42 now. I used to go running every morning but now I have arthritis so instead I get up, have a cuppa and then go to the swimming pool. About to head there now. Enjoy!

I always found the hardest time of year for motivation was late August-September because that's when it would start to be dark outside. Once into the depths of winter you're used to it but that initial change is hard.

Unlike most, I love the autumn clock change as it brings back lighter mornings.

Get a good head torch and have fun.

Morning @liveforeva ! I’m up and ready to take the dog out for a walk. We usually walk for about 40 minutes - I work from home so I think of it as walking to work Grin I don’t always feel like it but it’s my routine and I do enjoy it once I’m out and I enjoy our walk together. Let us know how you get on this morning 💪

Globules · 04/10/2024 05:49

Hullo Hullo

Just off outside for a run.

If I don't do it now, I'm too tired when I get home.

I hate going before work, but I hate it more after.

AChickenPooAndABiscuit · 04/10/2024 05:49

@garlictwist ah I agree with the initial change when it’s dark first thing, it’s hard isn’t it? Worth pushing through though.

VaddaABeetch · 04/10/2024 05:50

I go to the gym for 6, 6 days a week. . It’s 3km away someone to it. I don’t always living going but definitely glad when I finish.

mandarindreams · 04/10/2024 05:50

Morning! Yes, off to the gym for a 6.30am class. I'm pretty out of practice at morning exercise (changes to routine after having a baby are a long adjustment!) but in the past I always loved a morning workout. Hot yoga on a cold, dark winter morning was always my favourite!

fedup2010 · 04/10/2024 05:51

I am up and contemplating whether to do gym class at 7 or Body Coach training at home. Or to stay in bed😴I started this new routine month or so ago. Usually get up at 5.30. It's a struggle with a full time demanding job and young child. But it's the only time I can do it. And I feel great after!! Thanks for this thread!! I am now definatenly not staying in bed😊

LemongrassLollipop · 04/10/2024 05:52

Reading in awe, enjoy your run OP!

liveforeva · 04/10/2024 05:55

Wow morning everybody!

I am heading out the door now. I think it's kinda nice to start a new routine now and get to January already feeling good!

I think perhaps 3 early mornings at the gym and 2 just a walk might be easier going to start.
I already feel more alive than I did an hour ago, so the extra time I gave myself to have a coffee and wake up was a good idea.

TeaAndCakeFTW · 04/10/2024 05:58

Ha, I'm the opposite, the least time sitting about the better. If I sit down, I'm not going anywhere, up, dressed, out works better for me. Going to spin now.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/10/2024 05:59

Ha! You’ve chosen the hardest time of year, I think, to start this but well done for starting! I’m about to head out to the gym. For me, exercise has to be first thing in the week or it doesn’t happen at all.

enjoy the sunrise!

ANightingaleSang · 04/10/2024 06:00

Morning! I wake up at 5 every morning. I've got my long run today at 8am. I like to have a huge bowl of porridge 3 hours before to fuel it and without getting stitch 💪 I used to exercise at 6am before work but I'm on mat leave so have pushed it back a bit 😊

PortiasBiscuit · 04/10/2024 06:01

I’m about to go swimming, do that once per week. Does this count?

TheOtherSide21 · 04/10/2024 06:15

I’ve got up at 4/5am since I was in my teens to tend to the horses, and even now they’re on full livery I still get up to either ride, or go for a walk / gym / swim.

I love it- totally sets me up for the day!!

Holidaysrule · 04/10/2024 06:16

I do. If I had to actually get in my car though, I know I wouldn’t do it, so I have a (very basic!) gym at home. I also know I’m too knackered to do it after work, that’s why I do it before. I roll out of bed into my workout clothes, drink one coffee then crack on. I’m always done and dusted for 6.30am. It is my time, no one else is up and it makes me feel really positive, so a good way to start the day.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 04/10/2024 06:22

Not as impressive as these but I do 10-15 mins of yoga between 5 & 6 every morning I lisren to the shipping forcast as I do it.

Tiddlywinkly · 04/10/2024 06:24

Hi!

Wow, I practically had a lie in compared with some of you! Off out for a 10 mile long run (usually done at a later hour on a Sunday), but busy fun filled weekend again so squeezing it in now.

It's difficult, but I love the filling of having done my exercise already. It frees up my evenings.

BananaNirvana · 04/10/2024 06:28

I love this thread! I used to be a morning exerciser but got out of the habit years ago - need to get back into it! Thank you for the inspiration 🥰

Crushed23 · 04/10/2024 06:34

Morning all.

I get up at 5:30 Mon-Fri to do a morning exercise class. Today it's HIIT at 7am.

I've been doing this for about a year and it's been fantastic.

Happy exercising everyone!

ratherbesurfing · 04/10/2024 06:36

I aspire to be an early morning exerciser and manage about three times a week. In the summer it’s easier, I walk or run across fields (just finished couch to 5 k) because I can let the dog off, but obviously that means it’s darker and potentially not safe in the winter. So I have to wait till about 6.30. I also do yoga some mornings, have a shower first and let my hair dry naturally as all the upside down gives it some body.

I’m using this thread as a reboot.
