I posted this on the “chat” thread earlier and someone advised me to post on here as it gets more traffic…

I’ve changed my username for this post.
I am feeling really quite down at the moment. My job is dire. So dire. I am applying for new ones but not getting anywhere.

I am overweight by at least 4 stone. I lost about 20 pounds earlier this year but since then have totally lost my mojo. Not doing any exercise and eating crap.

I am also finding myself drinking and vaping every night, as in 1-2 glasses of wine, sitting alone on my sofa. I want to stop this.

If you have any good ideas on how to get myself out of this slump then please post them!!

I'm so sorry you're feeling down. It sounds like you're maybe overwhelmed with everything you want to do so my advice would be to do one thing at a time.

What's most important to you? If it's finding a new job concentrate on that. If it's your weight, start making small changes. Walk a bit more each day and/or introduce a piece of fruit a day.

When you start making small changes I think it makes it less overwhelming and you can add another small change and another. Give yourself attainable goals like lose 1lb by the end of the month or apply for 2 jobs this month. Baby steps until you feel you're able for a bigger change.

Good luck. Sending you hugs and hope you feel a bit brighter soon ❤️ 🤗

Swap the wine for G&T and then just T. Treat yourself to nice flavours and a good brand. With ice it feels like you're having a proper drink, a treat. Swap out crisps or biscuits for flavoured rice cakes or popcorn minus toffee or sugar.

Very small changes can make big differences. In terms of exercise, if possible, treat yourself to a cosy hat or scarf, locate a podcast series and go fit walks. It doesn't have to be sweaty gym sessions...fresh air and ideally being amongst nature is shown to have massively positive effects on us.

I can't advise on vaping but maybe try doing something else with your hands, knitting or colouring or a puzzle?

Thank you @Fannyfiggs - definitely do feel overwhelmed and am guilty of getting myself into a bit of a state! I think probably losing weight and just eating better and drinking more water etc is most important to me now.

And thank you too @RhaenysRocks. Is gin less of a depressant than wine? I definitely have to stop drinking daily. I think it’s starting to take its toll.

I think how alcohol affects us is very individual. It's certainly less calorific and you'll be able to work towards no alcohol easier as it's less noticeable to switch from g&t to just tonic. There are some fab flavours out there, plus lots of nice ginger ales, flavoured sodas etc.

yes that’s a good idea!
