To wonder if testosterone supplements will bring back my sex surge!

Started hrt about a year ago. After previously having a low sex drive I was suddenly desperate for it every day! It was great and me and my partner really connected again which has been fab.
But the last few months I've just not been feeling it anymore. I'm really disappointed. The GP did mention testosterone when prescribing the hrt. I can't get an appointment for several weeks though.
Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone else take testosterone for that reason?

thought I’d bump this thread for you as it’s in danger of falling off the page!

It raised mine. I was initially given too high a dose though, I'll have to see if it has the same affect when I'm down to the test. level I should be at.

Fantastic OP that your doctor is proactively talking about testosterone

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 03/10/2024 22:31

If they’re offering it then bite their hand off! I had to be referred to the Meno clinic at a hospital miles away to get it prescribed. It has definitely helped - had a mind blowing orgasm for the first time in years after I started it. Was masturbating every day. Sometimes several times! Poor DP was worried he wouldn’t keep up. Has settled down a bit now though!

Thank you for the positive feedback. I guess I'm scared to take further meds and any side effects it may cause but if it works it would be amazing! That's what hurts the most. I didn't think a great sex life was possible anymore months back. But hrt changed all of that. To have it and then have it taken away makes me feel really low. Thanks for the answers.

How long were you taking it before it worked ? I have some but scared to take !

StrongFemaleCharacter · 04/10/2024 01:01

I've been on it for a couple of weeks now and haven't noticed any difference (sadly!). But I've been eeking it out as it's really hard to measure a dose. How long was it before you started feeling different?

Ahwelltoobad · 04/10/2024 05:45

What are the name of these meds, please? 🙏

About three days. It worked very quickly for me BUT the gp and I had made sure my oestrogen was fore I started testosterone. If you don’t have enough oestrogen then the testosterone doesn’t work. And many people find testosterone a very slow burn.

Yes it took about 3 months to have any noticeable effect. The only times I’ve felt really like my 20 year old self my levels have apparently been unacceptably high. However it does make a difference to my general responsiveness and I haven’t had any side effects.

its a huge shame women are scared to ask for and take it. It’s a naturally occurring hormone. Although for some ridiculous reason the NHS can only prescribe for low libido ( so if you want it you must mention this), it’s also important for muscle and bone strength and no, it doesn’t turn you into a hairy, angry man.

Better off taking zinc

Better off taking zinc

Why? Do you have any medical evidence for this?

Prettyredflowers · 04/10/2024 17:36

Make sure you keep having tests until you're certain what dose gives you the correct level of testosterone for women. I was told to take 1 actuation (press top down once, get big blob of gel), and that took me from zero, to 8 times the recommended dose. I'm now only taking a tiny part of an actuation, and only 3 times a week...

How is it better to supplement low levels of testosterone with zinc rather than with testosterone
