...to think I have the loveliest DH in the world?

pollyglot · 02/10/2024 22:08

I'm sitting here in my well-worn and unglamorous pyjamas, laptop on my knee, working on my latest book. The sun is streaming in through the French windows, and spring has indeed sprung.
DH comes in with a coffee for me, and says..."You look so beautiful sitting there in the sun. I'm so proud of you, and the luckiest man alive."

Readers, I'm going on 75, and he is 76. I have glasses, wrinkles and gardening hands, carrying a little more avoirdupois than recommended. Beautiful I am not. Is he lovely, or what?

Perhaps I should have mentioned that he is an Englishman. My absolutely best holiday souvenir. Cambridge Waikato or Cambridge Cambs?

Waikato I think . Absolutely wonderful that you have such a great husband, love to you both.X

It’s very nice. It’s a lot easier for older men to be romantic once they give up their youthful male ego and realise they haven’t got a chance to get anyone else anymore so will be nicer to you

Well ain't you just the best pessimist!

@pollyglot 👋 hello 🙂.

I am so glad he is still been supportive and can see what a wonderful loving and intelligent lady you are.

I am glad the writing is still going well , I can't wait to read your 1st book in full. ( and then the rest of course)

pollyglot · 03/10/2024 01:18

Scotty!! I'm definitely coming over next year and will bring them with me. Oakwell Hall will be selling them too...(I sent one copy to an elderly cousin in Devon, and the postage cost $38!!!) I'll catch you in the UK! xx Take care!

Hi @pollyglot , I am glad you are coming over ,
$38 yikes ! You would bankrupt yourself if you posted anymore .
If I can get up to Oakwell Hall I will buy them but until them keep writing so can buy more 😀.🖋

My husband and I are both in our 30's
I've recently had a baby by c-section and daughter was colic, so he did most of the carrying to calm her duty (he took 3 months paternity) which has surprisingly resulted in some impressive muscles (men just grow muscle so easily!).

He could very easily trade up for a better woman than me right now (not putting myself down, just reality) but he's come home early twice this week and been a real sweetheart.

Point is - a nice man is nice at all ages, and a worm of a man will usually be a worm at all ages, although you're not wrong, some men do exactly as you say.

Your post is a little bitter, it doesn't have a place on this rare-for-mumsnet, positive thread

PomPomtheGreat · 03/10/2024 02:30

Are we married to the same man, pollyglot?! Possibly not because we're in Australia and a bit younger, but otherwise your post rings a bell. I'm also almost sure I've read that snippet before. Are you possibly on one of the Facebook writing groups like 20 to 50K?

It's also springtime here, and I'm also lounging around in my pyjamas finishing my latest book. Cups of coffee and snacks appear at regular intervals without me even asking for them. Like yours, my husband is my greatest cheerleader and has always encouraged me to take the leap and switch my career to writing.

He's always been great at cooking, cleaning, and childcare. And he's never once raised his voice to me in almost forty years of marriage. Plus, despite working very long hours, he insists on helping by editing and proofreading all my books because of his background in linguistics.

When my first book came out, he had the cover printed on a mug. He took me out for coffee on publication day and secretly asked the barista to use that mug for my hot chocolate. I'll never forget it arriving at the table and the server grinning at me.

Maybe there's just something about British men who end up living in the Antipodes?

DryBiscuit · 03/10/2024 02:41

Do people think EVERYONE lives in the UK?

She posted about the sun at night, and Spring

Its not difficult to realise she isnt in the UK !

Where do you live? Have you ever lived abroad?

LostittoBostik · 03/10/2024 03:44

Spring has not sprung.

Depends where the OP lives doesn't it?

What odd questions. Why?

Haha, sorry to alarm you. Because you're right - a lot of people don't have that perspective until they've lived abroad.

Even factoring in mentioning spring etc

feelingfree17 · 03/10/2024 04:56

Sounds a wonderful man OP
Oh, and Spring in NZ
It doesn’t get much better

readingismycardio · 03/10/2024 05:22

@pollyglot love this! So, what's the secret to a happy, long marriage? Pls do share :)

Genevieva · 03/10/2024 05:28

Spring?

She might be in aus?

DilemmaDelilah · 03/10/2024 06:09

@pollyglot you do indeed have a lovely husband. So do I, for too many reasons to mention. We are very lucky aren't we!

wickerlady · 03/10/2024 06:26

Very lovely OP ❤️

MayaPinion · 03/10/2024 06:40

Well, you certainly sound beautiful and how lovely that he appreciates his great fortune.

OrlandointheWilderness · 03/10/2024 07:05

Nice to read someone likes their DH on MN!
Just lovely. There are good ones out there - I know there are because he is snoring upstairs currently 😂

Skyrainlight · 03/10/2024 09:41

That makes me smile.

MontysBakehouse · 02/10/2024 22:20

Overcompensating, probably having an affair, LTB.

😂This, op, because every Mn thread about a relationship with a man has to end in LTB one way or another!

I’m really glad to read such a positive post about marriage. I do think marriage is a bit like housework in the sense that it tends to get focused on only when it’s not done / isn’t working.

Bloody hell is someone cutting onions up round here ? 💕

DonnaBanana · 03/10/2024 14:36

Well sorry for bringing the tone down but I am actually very happy for OP and especially if he has always been like that!

However in my experience (not just me but friends and family) younger men are not usually saying stuff like "I'm so proud of you, and the luckiest man alive" that feels like something a nice older man will say. Younger men usually have their heads too much up their bums to be so sweet.
