Please help! I clean all the time and hoover regularly.

I found these bugs in our carpet. I thought maggots DH said no. We don’t know what they are or where they’re coming from.

Any ideas please…photo attached - sorry it’s not great.

Carpet beetle? Can you put on white tissue and repost? So blurry…

mushypaperstraws · 02/10/2024 20:42

Carpet beetle or bean beetle

InterestQ · 02/10/2024 20:43

I think carpet beetles have a chevron pattern on their back. Those are just black are they OP?

2dogsandabudgie · 02/10/2024 20:45

They could be carpet bug larvae known as "woolly bears".

ImInACage · 02/10/2024 20:45

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they look like carpet beetle larvae. Do you have wool mix carpets? If left unchecked they will eat holes in carpets, linens, bedding etc. Check under furniture, there may already be holes. We discovered them in the bedrooms when we bought our house and battled them for several years before relenting and replacing the carpets. We haven't seen one in the three years since. Horrid little things. If you've seen little round speckled beetles on window sills, you definitely have them.

YourLastNerve · 02/10/2024 20:46

Yep carpet beetle larvae

Pleasesendhelporwine · 02/10/2024 20:49

Thanks everyone … I’ve googled and yes that’s them. I think we have wool in our carpets- they are new carpets and we’ve only noticed them in the past few weeks since the new carpets were put in. I hoover in the corners and never had a problem before this. Feel quite upset by it! Not what you want!

Urgh I HATE them. I spot one now and again in our bedrooms.

Do they just disappear?! Always had carpet’s and never ever seen them.

Is it anything to do with hygiene ? I can’t think how else we could keep clean anymore than we do. We don’t eat or drink upstairs where the carpets are, we Hoover and do the corners twice a week and we are just genuinely clean and don’t have clutter.

If the carpets are new then they may have come with them in, I would be contacting the supplier asap for a refund and also that they can check their supply chain/storage and make sure it doesn't happen to more customers.

Jaehee · 02/10/2024 21:03

Carpet beetle larvae.

LivelyGoldOrca · 02/10/2024 21:13

How do you get rid of them?

2MargerinesOnTheGo · 02/10/2024 21:15

Yes to carpet beetle larvae. Contact the supplier. Steam clean the carpets, including any upholstery. It took us a couple of years to be free of them, we still get the odd random one, in the end we had to remove most of the carpets.
lakeland sell (or used to) a carpet beetle spray.

Cem82 · 02/10/2024 21:24

Are you in a terrace or semi d as apparently they can move between houses! We’ve had a handful (but we’ve no carpets) appear occasionally- each time in our bathrooms so think they must come through vents or along pipes - we’re at the end of a terrace.

Each time I squish them, spray indorex everywhere and have baggied all clothes and rugs made from natural fibre - it seems to get rid of them but I think my neighbours must have them as I get one/two every few months. To have loads just after new carpets would make me suspect the supplier.

LightandBreezy · 02/10/2024 21:30

There's a powder you can put down that dessicates them - diatomaceous earth. safe for pets but messy.

SaltedPotato · 02/10/2024 21:36

My parents had them for years after bringing an old wool carpet out of storage following a quick house move. In the end the only thing that worked was replacing the carpets. Hoovering everywhere regularly and squishing them when they saw any

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/10/2024 21:44

Must be the time of year, I found one in DS's bed the other day when I stripped it (he's just moved to uni). I read that they do sometimes just fly in from outside so maybe it is just a seasonal thing just now cos I hoovered his room from top to bottom and didn't find any others.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/10/2024 21:47

oh and there is no wool in my son's bedroom carpet at all. We deliberately didn't get one with wool in because in his previous part wool one we did have a small infestation of carpet moths once under his bed which gave me the ick.

tolerable · 02/10/2024 23:26

they are cotton moth-carpet beetles. Is it relatively new carpets? in fact regrdless,if u just found them...go back to store. Not first time used as competitive warfare.

QuestionableMouse · 03/10/2024 01:04

LivelyGoldOrca · 02/10/2024 21:13

How do you get rid of them?

Indorex spray. Kills fleas but also gets rid of carpet beetles too.
