... while the other teacher in Year 6 IS... so the kids in his class are all off for the day.

DD2 is livid.

DP works from home so no prob really for us either way. But still, bit silly imo.

If that is the case then they can join one of the other Teaching unions - if that is all the Union will do to them then I dont see why teachers dont strike if they dont want to , although I dont suppose it is as simple as that .

I think the idea is that if you join the union you should show solidarity with the other members if a decision has been reached as the result of a majority vote.

No, they don't turf them out. The ballot was to strike, but it wasn't compulsory. People could go in if they wanted, but no one did in our school.

We had NUT teachers in today win had chosen not to strike. We were open for exam students win wanted to come in and to provide support for our vulnerable students. What made me laugh was the number of students win came in today who normally do nothing and even disrupt lessons making a fuss about their right to an education

Hmmm....

Talking to some teachers up here in Scotland i know and they were complaining how hard it was to get a post.

Not quite sure where this 'lack of teachers' thing comes from.

Maybe it's a regional thing.
