To not want to age gracefully? Can anyone recommend an anti aging cream that actually works?

After kids I'm starting to age, I'm not very accepting of this fact. Can anyone recommend some products based off of personal experience and not fake reviews?

Tretinoin

TemuSpecialBuy · 30/09/2024 11:11

Yes to tret but honestly surgery and injectables are going to give you the most bang for your buck

jeaux90 · 30/09/2024 11:12

Medik 8 do have great products but they are quite expensive but they are my go to.

The thing that really makes a difference though too is Botox and fillers.

standardduck · 30/09/2024 11:14

Tret for prevention (it can also revert some fine lines). But there is only so much you can get from creams. Look into injections + lasers. Morpheus8 is also great treatment for fine lines!

candlewhickgreen · 30/09/2024 11:15

No anti aging creams work.

JoanCollected · 30/09/2024 11:16

Nothing works. They are all placebos. Surgery/injectables are your only option.

MotherWol · 30/09/2024 11:20

It doesn't need to be as drastic as surgery and fillers; the most important thing is a consistent routine. Look for a cleanser that suits your skin type, follow it with a serum (e.g. Vitamin C), and SPF. In the evening, use a retinol or tretinoin, followed by a barrier protecting moisturiser. Skin and Me and Dermatica both have routine builder options. It's not true that no products actually work, there's reliable evidence for some products, and I think it's actively unhelpful to tell women that their only option is surgery, when things like sleep, diet, hydration and sunscreen will have a demonstrable positive impact on how they look.

They don't work, it's mostly down to keeping out of the sun and good genetics.

Sparkletastic · 30/09/2024 11:21

Retinol and spf

FupaTrooper · 30/09/2024 11:27

Tretinoin from Skin & Me (I prefer them to Dermatica.

Routine = oil cleanse, then second cleanse with something like Cerave.

Wait for skin to dry.

Apply Tret.

I then apply a hydrating toner. I do two layers of this. If you use one with hyaluronic acid then remember you need to mist your skin first and then apply moisturiser immediately afterwards. Hyaluronic acid tends to break me out so I don't use it.

Vanicream moisturiser is amazing and recommended by a lot of experts because it contains zero irritants.

Apply tret 3 times a week to start, do this for a month or two and eventually build up to every night. Skin & Me will work with you re percentages and build it slowly.

I personally use Paula's Choice BHA one night a week as well. It seems to add more glow and helps with my nose blackheads.

And then, its botox.

Take care of your overall skin health with the tret and then target key areas with the botox.
Those two combined will work absolute wonders for you.

Retinol and spf

This.

Anything else is smoke and mirrors. A good moisturiser will plump up your skin but that's pretty much it, no matter how much money you throw at it.

Get a decent SPF and order some high strength retinol from abroad. The over the counter stuff you get in Boots is little better than a standard face cream because you can only sell low concentrations of retinol without a prescription in Britain.

vitamin e oil

I use Elemis bliss capsules every three months. You look five years younger in no time and I am already aging very well yet even I can tell the difference (age 60).

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/09/2024 11:56

Extra virgin olive oil high in polyphenols: eat it and use it on your skin. Lots of water, good diet, exercise, decent sleep.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/09/2024 11:57

All of them according to a Gdd who was about 8 at the time. She wondered why wrinkly old granny wasn’t using any of the wonder-products advertised on TV!

hogletsandkittens · 30/09/2024 12:00

tretinoin really improved my skin. I get it from dermatica

PaminaMozart · 30/09/2024 12:01

Don't put your faith in anti- aging creams. Instead:

Retinol
SPF
And moisturise, moisturise, and moisturize some more.

But more than any of the above...

Eat a healthy diet. Lots of vegetables, some protein, small amounts of healthy fats, dairy, complex carbs. Limit UPF, sugar, refined carbs. And alcohol.

And exercise, especially weight/resistance based.

Eyesopenwideawake · 30/09/2024 12:04

I'm not very accepting of this fact.

Given the only alternative option, that's a fact that's impossible to deny.

iamsoshocked · 30/09/2024 12:06

I find Clarins day and night creams make a difference. They are expensive though.

1468854677H · 30/09/2024 12:12

I have always looked after my skin, Clarins for decades, but switched to Elemis 3 years ago and it was like magic for me, noticeable difference and skin has stayed really quite nice. I am early 60s.

However, I also drink masses of water daily, I eat 80% plant based plus fish, walk a lot and I also think this helps, of and I haven't drunk alcohol for decades, that can age you massively from what I read on here.

I agree with this.

Also, a tiny bit of Botox, tret, a decent led mask (with consistent use it gives a glow), a microneedling facial about every 3-4 months, collagen supplements and 10 mins a day of facial pilates/massage.

Didimum · 30/09/2024 13:01

I mean ... the thing is you're going to have to accept it. You will, by and large, look your age no matter what. Even people who use surgery, botox and fillers look their age – they just look their age + surgery, botox and fillers. They might like to tell themselves that they don't, but they do and 99% of people can age them accurately.

You are trying to run a race that you can't win.

Lentilweaver · 30/09/2024 13:08

Prescription tret has worked miracles for me but I still look my age more or less. Just a slightly better version.
I don't drink or smoke and eat a good diet.
I agree with not running a race you can't win.

Autumnalmanac · 30/09/2024 13:27

I echo those who say a good general skincare regime, exercise, good diet , lots of water and enough sleep are all important in keeping your skin looking at it's best.
I did find when I added a retinol serum to my nightly face care routine it was quite a revelation. It really does work.
