I know I am being unreasonable to ask is here really. But hey ho. Lots of good ideas abound. I want to buy a largish pencil case or make up bag for my 2 DDs and fill it with essential items. A bag that is small enough for them to keep in their back packs. They are aged 23 and 20 and are lovely young women but are always running out of basic things. One is on the PGCE. One is a university.

This is meant to be a fun but useful extra Christmas present that will save them time and money and be appealing. I have in mind already: small pack of paracetamol, tissues, wet wipes, tampons, pen, safety pins, mini deodorant, mini toothpaste and travel toothbrush, chewing gum, £10, couple of £1 coins, portable charger, plasters. Any better./different ideas?

Just to reiterate.. this is not a major present. Just a fun thing for them to open that will be useful rather than tat.

Thanks all.

Just a thought, as it happens in my every day bag I have a small pencil case type pouch with medical bits in it
Paracetamol
Plasters
Blister plasters
Tweezers
Allergy relief tablets
Antibacterial wipes
Nail clippers

I am so enjoying making up my list. DD1 usually carries a large velvet tote (bit Mary Poppins). DD2 uses a Doc Marten back pack. Both have a fair bit of space.

ibruprofen
mini hairspray
granola bar or bar of chocolate

Alcohol wipe for cuts, tiny picture of their crush or idle (if they are 25 Taylor Swift?) Always cheers me up. Tea bag, mini milk sachets you get in cafes, mini sugar, mini mayo can be invaluable 😂

LunaMay · 28/09/2024 21:02

My nanna used to do this for me every Christmas as a teen. Would also get a box of toiletries and enough knickers to last a lifetime!

i agree with
Sunscreen (Aussie)
Whistle
tweezers

For 'fun'
those flavoured water drops
spare cheap set of wireless ear pods?
one of those foldable shopping bag keyring things
backscratcher
metal straws or those reusable cutlery packs
usb stick

Lottery ticket , pound coin, large paper clip. Lovely idea!

Ponderingwindow · 28/09/2024 21:12

For the pouch itself, I use a flat mesh zipper pouch. It is sheer enough that you can see the contents which is nice because it makes things easy to find and flat fits nicely in my bag.

No recommendations as others have been great but I think it’s a fantastic idea!

These bags seem to be a theme for this sort of thing on TikTok

I came in to suggest the Swiss Card as @Wonderballs said. It's one of the most useful things ever. It's just about the size of a credit card, and contains loads of handy wee things like a pen, nail file, pin, toothpick, scissors etc.

OnaBegonia · 28/09/2024 21:25

Greggs gift card, always a hit with my lot.

PandaWorld · 28/09/2024 21:26

Everyone giving great ideas but also you can buy fold up ballet pumps from amazon/ebay which could come in handy after a night out

ObieJoyful · 28/09/2024 21:27

Lip balm and hair bands.

A nice keyring.

I’m definitely ordering two of those; one for my friend, and one for me!

randomusernam · 28/09/2024 21:56

Tide stain pens, you can get them on Amazon
Collapsable metal straw

Primark and I think M&S do small pouchs/make up bags with initial letter that might suit as the actual bag. Actually a lot of places seem to do similar in run up to xmas

Scissors, so useful for everything. Often wish I had a pair attached to my waist like a woman on a mediaeval tomb.

Try carrying nail clippers with you. Small and foldable so you won't jab yourself. Can take them on flights in pocket/hand luggage. Often have a hole so you can put them on a keyring.

I use them for everything from clipping stray threads, cutting labels off clothes, cutting into packets etc. Plus can be used for nails if needed on the go.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 28/09/2024 23:23

I love this idea - I’m making one for myself 🥰

All I carry is a few medicines and a lip balm. I'm now feeling like I am seriously lacking 🤣

Berlinlover · 28/09/2024 23:56

Lovely idea if they were in their mid teens but they’re grown women who should be organised enough not to keep running out of basic things.
