Posting here for traffic.

is anyone else serious about learning and practising the tools described in Never Split The Difference?

I’ve lived my life pretty successfully by being “clever”, open and honest and a great mentor, but I reached a point at work 18 months ago where it became painfully clear I needed to upskill. I’m giving way to much emotion and information away and not thinking about how things look from the outside.

I’ve started “low-stakes practice” and I’m seeing some results.

I am practising with one or two trusted colleagues but need to practise more widely.

exciting stuff! Hope someone pops up!

Well I've never heard of it had a Quick Look and it seems to be about negotiating? How have you transferred that to your work?

NeverSplitTheDifference · 28/09/2024 12:42

Thanks for replying.
yes, it’s about negotiating but the idea is that most interactions are negotiations.

…and I’m using it to restore my relationship with my boss.

I'm interested in this, feel free to message me. I'm travelling this weekend but can get involved next week

Ok cool.

today I spoke to my brother who is going through a very difficult phase in his life. As usual, he started by ranting and complaining about everything that was happening. Instead of interrupting him or answering him or just not listening, I focused on labelling what he was saying back to him. I did that for about 20 minutes. At that point, I “broke” and started suggesting solutions. He was much more suggestible and willing to engage with them than usual. It works!

Chris Voss says the quickest changes people see come from adopting no-oriented questions.
”Start with No” (Voss’ inspiration) says the biggest change you can make is to “eliminate all neediness.”

so today I:
did 2 no-oriented questions with success and
did Not respond even privately to an all users email from my boss on a topic we need to discuss (because I know he’s too busy this week).

By any chance would you explain @Inkystain why you chose to bump a post from 1 October last year?!
