Not replying after a handful of messages on a dating app isn't 'ghosting'

I'm single and on dating apps you start convos with lots of different people, then hopefully some you have good chats with and progress to a date. Others you realise from their answers you don't have much in common, they just send rubbish short responses or they aren't someone you want to date. Stopping replying after a couple of messages isn't ghosting, it's just seeing who you might want to go on a date with.

Once you've arranged a date/met someone in person, if they then don't message or ignore you, that's ghosting (and is rude!).

I get fed up of people (mostly men) moaning about ghosting when they mean the first one! AIBU?

Totally agree. It’s a while since I have done it but not responding to ‘Hi’ followed two days later by ‘Hello’ and four days after that by ‘Are you there?’ is not ghosting. I always assume that people are communicating with multi others on these sites, so it’s only if you have a proper conversation going, not mindless niceties, that you can fairly expect a response. Absolutely rude if you had a date.

No it's not, you don't owe anyone anything if you have not even conversed with them at all. I'm on the Peanut app where you can meet other local mums and they have something in their policy about only being able to stay matched with someone for 48 hours unless you message them to " prevent ghosting". That annoyed me a little, I won't be told to start messaging a random person if I don't want to.

While I wouldn’t personally call it ghosting, it’s just a word and people will have their own subtle definitions of what it applies to in dating.
