What do the directions from the pharmacy say?

AD12345 · 27/09/2024 15:31

I take oestrogen gel ( 2 pumps) dailly and one progesterone pill daily. I run out of each roughly same time.
Are you taking 2 pumps of gel, not just one ?

nogoodtodaynogood · 27/09/2024 15:42

Just one. I feel wretched and so wonder if I am taking it wrong because I run out of the pills but not the gel.

what people experience of HRT is it hype I just don’t feel better for it

Have you been told to only take one pump of the gel? Have you told your GP (or whoever prescribed it for you) how you're feeling? The doses have to be tweaked, I had a 12-week review when I first when on HRT and my dose was tweaked at that point. Maybe 2 pumps would be better for you? Personally I'm on the patch as I prefer to just stick it on and forget about it for a few days! You need to speak up about how you're feeling so that you can get the right doseage and application that works for you. Don't just say 'its not working' and give up on it.

You are on a very low dose of gel. I didn't feel 100% better until.I was on the maximum dose which would be 4 pumps.

I would ask your GP to up your oestrogen dose.

You need to speak to your GP or Pharmacist and get them to talk you through exactly what to take and when, so you understand it.

From what I understand, progesterone tablets are only to be taken during part of your cycle, not every day, if you still have periods.

You need to speak to someone face to face and make sure you’re clear on what has been advised.

Yes op maybe dosage needs adjusting. I didnt find it amazing but we all different. Im just on vagifem now

The usual starting dose for Oestrogel is 2 pumps per day. I'd suggest increasing to 2 pumps and see how you feel. 1 pump is very low.

One of the reasons why my GP prescribed the gel specifically (rather than patch) was so I can adjust my own dosage if I don't think it's working for me. It's often trial and error at the beginning. I take 2 pumps and that's made a huge difference to me.

I am on patches since May and I'm definitely a lot better than I was.

Sparkletastic · 27/09/2024 16:41

What precisely is your prescription? I use 3 pumps gel and take 2 progesterone pills days 15 to 26. You sound under dosed unless you are very early perimenopause
