I was shocked and refused to buy it .

hopefully lose some weight now as I was buying at least 3 bars a week 😊

Chocolate is shit now anyway because of the palm oil. And even if we don’t consider the poor darling orangutans (which I hope we do) it tastes fucking horrible.

I really don’t get how people who earn £150k don’t understand how wage inflation hasn’t in fact risen hand in hand with price inflation.

But then I reflect some people who are lacking in intelligence and EQ can still earn that salary as a TikTok influencer, thus requiring neither.

As wages go up so do prices - people want large wage increases but it then knocks onto increases in those industries - viscious circle

HauntedBungalow · 26/09/2024 22:34

Our food prices haven't gone up by twenty fucking five percent in two years because of wage increases.

poetrylover · 26/09/2024 22:35

Yep, I have taken roughly a £2k pay cut over the last two years. I literally have to work harder and longer with less breaks and more expectation for less money. I still love it or I wouldn't be doing it but it stings.

Crikeyalmighty · 26/09/2024 22:38

Honestly I'm quite happy at clipper t bags£3 for big box in Sainsbury's when I bought a few weeks ago

It's got to be olive oil - mental money

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/09/2024 22:38

Just dont say the "b" word or holier than though @MrsTerryPratchett will have it reported, the grass.

Thou.

Sadtosaythis · 26/09/2024 22:39

I did see a £43 leg of lamb in Sainsburys a few weeks back………it wasn’t even that big…

HauntedBungalow · 26/09/2024 22:42

That Spanish EV olive oil was on offer in Waitrose the other week btw, the litre bottle, eight quid, about the same as Lidl is now. The olive oil thing I can just about understand, it's an issue for everyone. Worse for us in the UK though with our brexit bonanza pricing on top.

It's a natoora pepper not just a red bell pepper

It's just a red bell pepper from a brand called Natoora. In theory their vegetables are meant to be tastier and more nutritious than bog standard supermarket veg, but I don't know anyone who's ever bought them to found out.

I haven't so no idea iv also never heard of them I just googled it and it said their 3 times the size of a standard bell pepper

Ferrero Rocher are at Ambassadors prices though.

I know, but with these Rocher they are really spoiling us - so worth it in my opinion even if it means going to the Ambassadors party to get hold of them...

Madisnttheword · 26/09/2024 22:48

Cadbury fingers 114g pack. Apparently on special offer at £5.95. small convenience store

Azera coffee - £7.45!

I've seen this in a petrol station for £9!

KnottedTwine · 26/09/2024 22:49

Asda has just put their basics/essential natural fat-free yoghurt up from 35p for 500ml to 55p for 500ml.

Still not expensive, but that is one hell of a rise in % terms.

100g tins £8.15 in Sainsbury’s…. They were £7.50 not that long ago.

We like the Dowe Egberts coffee in the glass jars. I remember buying it a couple of years ago for around £4.50 a jar. It's nearer £8 now!

That might be true for non-public sector... For the rest of us, not so much...

My MIL's teacher's pension has increased by £3,500 in 8 years- less than £350 a year after tax. Her insurance payments for house, car, pet, plus council tax have increased by over £1000 a year just in the last 12 months. Now winter fuel allowance has gone too

People who earn large salaries and get large salary increases have no idea how hard many are hit by price rises.

The one with the pourer on top of the bottle? I love it. It’s the only reason I buy it. I’m sure it does taste gorgeous too but I need that pourer in my life.

Weetabix 72 pack £8.
Wtf?

That tipped me over the edge in Waitrose. I grew up believing Weetabix to be an essential building block of life and now it's up there with filet mignon.

I bought the own brand and it's absolutely delicious.

I couldn't believe it. It's stayed on the shelf and I will have toast instead.

Baked beans are another. 2 pounds for a tin?!?!

I don't buy heinz beans, soup or sauces etc etc anymore. £2 for a tin of baked beans when most supermarkets do an own brand tin for 55p. Even in M&S I think their own brand baked beans are only something like 55p. Heinz soup is stupidly expensive now too.

Their reviews on Ocado are generally poor.

Was it a little co-op? In which case it's more of a convenience supermarket? And also bin bags are super shit for the environment.

Can’t get rid of your rubbish here without them- bin men won’t empty your bin if it has loose rubbish in (which is odd to me because they have no problem emptying the recycling which is all loose items).

Yes, that's the one. I like the pourer too! I feel like Jamie fucking Oliver drizzling out of my little spout .

LegoTherapy · 26/09/2024 23:06

Big Toblerone £7.50 in the Co-Op. £4.50 in Asda. Makes Waitrose look cheap at times.
