Should I have removed the liquid or just emptied the poo in?

Doing a poo sample test for my Dd, 6.
It has a tube with a stick thing with white ear bud type thing at the end. The tube had a bit of liquid in, I cleaned the ear bud part in the liquid then put some of DD’s poo on it (hopefully enough 🤷🏻‍♀️-a thumbnail amount) and put it back in the tube and sealed it.
Now I feel stupid because I’m thinking I should have tipped the liquid all out???
Now it’s sat in the fridge to take to the lab tomorrow, but I’m wondering if I’ve done this right?
Can anyone help?

Read the instructions?

dementedpixie · 26/09/2024 19:08

I imagine that the liquid is supposed to be there

dementedpixie · 26/09/2024 19:09

And yes, did you read the instructions

Rosesanddaffs · 26/09/2024 19:20

You leave the liquid in, helps it somehow, can’t remember what the reason was when I asked the doctors! X

OneTC · 26/09/2024 19:22

Nah you've made the solution they're going to test

Bournetilly · 26/09/2024 19:23

You leave it in

AgainandagainandagainSS · 26/09/2024 19:34

I really wont matter OP. They know what to look for.

Iloverainme · 26/09/2024 19:46

Oh phew! I thought it may be to sterilise the ear bud bit, then you tip it out, relieved you leave it in
Was it enough of a sample? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Instructions in another language, has little pictures but difficult to tell exactly what it says

@OneTC What do you mean? I’ve done it right or wrong?

Are you sure there werent any instructions in English? Was it like a little spatula thing rather than a cotton bud?

LegoTherapy · 26/09/2024 19:50

What is the test for?

MissAustenTatious · 26/09/2024 20:31

You leave the liquid in: If I remember correctly, you're supposed to shake it thoroughly , too.

Iloverainme · 26/09/2024 21:56

Ahh I didn’t shake it thoroughly 😬
It had no English, just a small package, it was a long, cotton bud thing
It’s to test my DD’s poo

If it helps at all I'm pretty sure you're meant fill the tube about 3/4 full so thumbnail amount may not be enough.

Test for what though?
Different tests may require different collection techniques and amounts

rubyrubyrubyrubymurray · 26/09/2024 22:12

Is it a FIT kit? If so the fluid (preservative) is there for a reason but also, we advise patients to read the instruction for a reason.

When I did a poo test it was a tiny amount that was required in the grooves of the stick that was provided.

Iloverainme · 26/09/2024 22:17

@aesoplover Oh 😬 without sounding gross, it has all mixed with the liquid and seems to be a fair amount 🤷🏻‍♀️

Iloverainme · 26/09/2024 22:18

@dementedpixie Just for various things I think? Parasites, candida…she’s had bad constipation and stomach aches

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 26/09/2024 22:18

Without knowing what the test was we have no idea if the amount you put in was too much or too little

dementedpixie · 26/09/2024 22:19

Was there a leaflet? No instructions at all?
Who requested the test? Where is it going to get tested?

Iloverainme · 26/09/2024 22:20

@rubyrubyrubyrubymurray No, Googling that, it’s not the same

@dementedpixie No leaflet really just a series of tiny pictures but difficult to understand. The nurse at the lab handed it to us to do at home abf bring back in

Franjipanl8r · 26/09/2024 22:45

They’ll just ask you to do another if it isn’t right. Just send it in and definitely don’t fill it 3/4 full, no one at the lab wants to tackle a full on turd 🤢
