We are moving from the south up to the area of these three main schools. We don’t know anyone at all around there (moving for work reasons only). Does anyone happen to know anything about any of them? Thanks

Jeremy Clarkson and Andy Wilman were at Repton. In the 70s I concede...

Kremmchesh · 25/09/2024 17:40

@AllMyExesWearRolexes do you know which of the three are best these days?

What actual area are you moving too as these are all a distance from each other?

ladymalfoy45 · 25/09/2024 17:49

I've taught at two of those.
As both a parent and teacher ,I'd suggest you should think about visiting when it's not an open day/ evening.
I'd do this for any school because you get to see it ' in action' rather than the choreographed evenings parents are invited to attend.

Kremmchesh · 25/09/2024 18:43

@ladymalfoy45 yes we will be going to visit them all. If you’ve taught at two could you at least say which is best or which you would avoid (if any)? 😀

Denstone was my favourite because the pupils/students were really engaged with their learning.
Look at the opportunities the schools provide after your children have left.
There is of course the dramatically different travelling times between the schools depending on where you are based .

ladymalfoy45 · 25/09/2024 19:30

Will they be 'day' pupils or boarding ?

NeverHadHaveHas · 25/09/2024 19:33

Whereabouts will you actually be living? Newcastle under Lyme School is excellent and cheaper than all of those but is about 40 mins from those schools and isn’t boarding.

Helpwithfamily · 25/09/2024 19:35

They are very different schools, would suit different families/children. Any particular interests they have?

ladymalfoy45 · 25/09/2024 20:03

If you're moving 'to the area ' I'd presume Burton,Repton,Uttoxeter. ,Roceseter.
It's at least 40 mins from Burton to Denstone or Abbotsholme ( and I leave at 7:30 ).
Burton to Repton (depending on the vagaries of the A38 ) 20- 39 mins.

Are you looking at prep?

YourPearlLion · 23/06/2025 23:06

If you are still looking… and depending on age of children, I highly recommend taking a look at S Anselms in Bakewell.

It is the most wonderful prep school through to 13.

They have an open day on Friday 27th June which will be well worth a look.
