Being named Christine

Do you think it is old fashioned? I don't know any others around my sort of age (other than Christine Lampard) and I (might be imagining it because I am sensitive) see people do a double take when I'm introduced. All the Christines I know in real life are minimum pension age at least.

I don't like Chris as it makes me feel like people think I'm a guy and I don't like Chrissy either as I feel silly.

It's a brilliant name. A strong name with character.
And so versatile: Chrissy and Tina are my favourite diminutives.

I'd take Christine as a name anyday instead of mine. I dislike mine intensely. Mine is dated and very few younger people have it now. But when I was at school there were another 4 in my class, all of us with the same middle name as well, and goodness knows how many in the school as a whole. My mother named me after her best friend's daughter, who also had the same middle name. So we were 10 a penny.

I haven't read all the comments, but what about Krista?

I like the name Christine.

Have you listened to the song "Christine" by the House of Love? I like it and find it very romantic!

Button28384738 · 25/09/2024 16:53

It's fine, I'm 43 and remember girls my age at school being called Christine/Chrissie

Do you like Tina as a nickname?

Willyoujustbequiet · 25/09/2024 17:28

It's a lovely name.

I know 2 late teens and an early 20s called it. Chrissy as the nickname especially after Stranger Things.

I'd much prefer to be called that than the current Ethel, Elsie, Flora.

FasterMichelin · 25/09/2024 17:30

Yes, round my way, Christine is typically older women.

Chrissy sounds much more youthful in my opinion.

Thiswayorthatway · 25/09/2024 17:32

I know a Lynn in her late 40s, she likes it as it’s not that common.

Probablyshould · 25/09/2024 17:35

The only Christine I know is 70. My 1970s classmates were all Susan, Deborah, Alison, Jennifer, Joanne and Louise.

You have to tell us! Ethel is a classic name now, I think its making a comeback. Hilda and Freda, not so much. Or maybe you're a Doreen.

I’m a “Barbara”

Londonmummy66 · 25/09/2024 19:23

Most younger girls are Christina or Christiane/a both of which are much nicer. Although I prefer Christian which is the Scottish (all ages and classes) variant.

Teanbiscuits33 · 25/09/2024 19:27

I know someone called Christine in her 40s and a Christina in her 30s. It’s a bit old fashioned but not too bad, there are definitely worse names for a younger person to be called.

muffledvoice · 25/09/2024 19:29

Knew a Christine known by Christa and another by T I'm assuming as in the 'tone'

muffledvoice · 25/09/2024 19:29

Tine even

I had an aunt called Christine, born 1946. My dsis is a 70s Christina.

Same vintage here, when I was about 12/13 I decided I didn't like it so I started spelling it Krysteen and got into a lot of trouble at school!

The only Christine I know is 70. My 1970s classmates were all Susan, Deborah, Alison, Jennifer, Joanne and Louise.

With Linda and Diana you almost named all my 1960s class!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/09/2024 19:32

I know a woman named Chrissy who is my age; mid 40s - I think it's a rather wonderful name, actually

ginasevern · 25/09/2024 12:19

I work with a Christine your age. I've never given the name much thought and certainly not age related. It's not like you're called Galdys or Beryl.

Both of whom are non-uniquely named teenagers where I am.

HolyPeaches · 25/09/2024 19:40

I went to school with a Christina. (We’re 30 now).

There was also a Michelle, Julia, Jayne and Glen in our year group, which were also seen as “old fashioned” names for teens in the late 2000’s.

EsmeShelby · 25/09/2024 19:42

It's wall to wall Christina's in my son's school.

Zanatdy · 25/09/2024 19:42

It’s a nice name IMO. I know 2, they are both mid-late 40’s. But I wouldn’t say it’s too old fashioned for early 40’s. One of the Christine’s I know is known as Chrissy to friends

Lancrelady80 · 25/09/2024 19:45

What about Christie if you want to sound a bit younger? Christine does sound very much of a sensible, mature lady - not necessarily old, but a certain personality type.

NinjaGin · 25/09/2024 19:45

My 78 yr old mum's first name is Christine.... she has always said it's old fashioned and for about 30+ years has favoured her v unusual middle name in its place

Rewis · 25/09/2024 19:47

I thibk Christine is an ageless name. Some names have an age related mental image. But Christine isn't one.

Phase2 · 25/09/2024 19:48

I know two, one is Chrissie and one in Christy (which I love)
