Being named Christine

Do you think it is old fashioned? I don't know any others around my sort of age (other than Christine Lampard) and I (might be imagining it because I am sensitive) see people do a double take when I'm introduced. All the Christines I know in real life are minimum pension age at least.

I don't like Chris as it makes me feel like people think I'm a guy and I don't like Chrissy either as I feel silly.

I think it's a lovely name.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 25/09/2024 14:39

My mil always goes by Tina.

JohnCravensNewsround · 25/09/2024 14:39

I had an aunt called Christine, born 1946. My dsis is a 70s Christina.

GuPuddingRamekinHoarder · 25/09/2024 14:39

Young teens were going around wearing ‘Chrissy’ sweatshirts and t-shirts two years ago when Stranger Things 4 was released.

The name will probably get popular.

GiddyRobin · 25/09/2024 14:40

I love the name Christine! I think it's very elegant. Very Phantom of the Opera! In my head it's not an older person name like Mildred or Ethel.

LostTheMarble · 25/09/2024 14:41

I know two, one older and one younger than me but all around my age. I’m in my late 30s. Oh and I knew one when younger who would be in their 60s now but I don’t think it’s an old person name at all.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 25/09/2024 14:42

My 46 year old cousin is a Christine!

lurcherlove · 25/09/2024 14:42

I would love to be called Christine. My name is on the same level as Ethel. I’m under 40 (just).

lurcherlove · 25/09/2024 14:43

Oh I hadn’t read @GiddyRobin’s post before posting mine!!

PurpleChrayn · 25/09/2024 14:43

All the Christines I know are over 60.

SinnerBoy · 25/09/2024 14:43

Celebrate! You have songs named for you!

You have to tell us! Ethel is a classic name now, I think its making a comeback. Hilda and Freda, not so much. Or maybe you're a Doreen.

DuBoo · 25/09/2024 14:44

I know 2 that sort of age.

Heehee! There'll be a thread about Ethels next! 😂

In a country where people are naming their babies Ethel, Mabel and Arthur, I can’t imagine anyone being sensitive about being a Christine.

Edited

I love all of those names.

Much better than any kind of Jayden/Kayden/Aiden or anything with Mae as a middle name.

booisbooming · 25/09/2024 14:49

Same age as you and I know a Kristina and a Christina who goes by Chrissie. It's a name I'd associate with people a little older but not by too much. I think I'd be Chrissie if I was you.

I have a friend whose middle name is Mae (well it is her second middle name) which was also her mother's middle name. She is 35 and her mum is 66 so both escaped the 'chav' associations with it. It's also not hyphenated like Lexi-Mae or what you see quite a lot of.

If you dislike Christine so strongly why have you never used your middle name? It’s much more popular in your age group and that seems to be important to you.

AthenaBasil · 25/09/2024 15:13

I know two, aged 4 and 60. It might be due a revival. It’s not a name I particularly pin to a generation. A 40 something wouldn’t seem strange to me unlike if you were Doris or Gladys.

KleoKangaroo · 25/09/2024 15:15

I like the name Christine, I'd ask people to use the full version though as I think it's pretty.

cheeeesey · 25/09/2024 15:23

"If you dislike Christine so strongly why have you never used your middle name?"

She said she didn't dislike it...

Birdscratch · 25/09/2024 15:25

True. If she feels it’s old fashioned then.

Some women have an irrational hatred of Vicky, Vikki, Vicki, Vic etc

I used to know a woman called Irene who went buy her middle name funnily enough. Probably late 40s now.

BunnyLake · 25/09/2024 15:26

I’m in my early 60s and Christine was a very normal name in my school days. I wouldn’t think anything of a forty something called Christine but anything younger would be unusual to me. Christina seems a younger version of the name but even Christina Aguillera must be in her forties now.

As an alternative how about Christie (as in Brinkley, Turlington)

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 25/09/2024 15:27

I have 2 aunts and a mil all called Christine.

It's a brilliant name.
