Constant smell of weed next door- are they growing it?

Beenthereagainandagain · 24/09/2024 22:27

the house next door smells strongly and constantly of weed. If it was just occasional I wouldn’t really be that bothered but it’s literally all the time and smells so strong it sometimes makes me feel a bit sick when I go near. The house isn’t even that close to our boundary, a good 20-30ft with trees and shrubs. It is very tucked away from the road down an almost private drive shared with one other house. We are on another street but the ends of our gardens adjoin. I went and had a nosey the other day and there are two vans parked on their drive (like camper vans but with blacked out windows, not tradesmen’s vans iyswim) and a skip. I’m suddenly imagining a high level drugs crime syndicate with gun-toting kingpin! Am I being over-dramatic?

If the smell is that strong then they may be growing it, it’s incredibly stinky when it’s drying out/curing. You couldn’t have a smell that strong carry like that from a J or any other means of consumption.

When the plants are growing they don’t tend to smell as strongly, it’s when they are being cultivated/cured/dried that they smell.

Beenthereagainandagain · 24/09/2024 22:57

So I suppose I’ll need to report to the police? Just call 101 tomorrow?

Is this property rented?

Beenthereagainandagain · 25/09/2024 00:22

Don’t know if it’s rented. I’ve never seen the people. Like I say, it backs into our garden and is in another street tucked away on a semi-private drive behind other houses. Ideal place for something dodgy to go on without observation really.

Realistically they may already be getting ready to dismantle to/or have dismantled everything, if they’re drying. The equipment will get loaded into vans and driven somewhere fairly far away and fly tipped.

PieonaBarm · 25/09/2024 00:29

Are the curtains closed, windows blacked out and/or condensated? Cannabis is grown in a humid light controlled environment

justasking111 · 25/09/2024 00:29

Friends rented out their first floor offices when they retired a few doors down from the police station. Someone in the terrace of shops and offices complained to the police alerted by the smell. It was raided. They found a cannabis farm.

Screamingabdabz · 25/09/2024 00:29

I wouldn’t be surprised. We live in a semi-rural OAP backwater and have observed over the last few months a whole supply operation going with blacked out cars arriving and young men on scooters being despatched with ‘deliveroo’ bags.

We are suffering the boredom of empty nest syndrome and don’t quite know whether to dob them in, or join the party. Jury’s out.

They’re probably all too high to orchestrate something on this scale, they be listening to Bob Marley and praising Jah in the Moonlight, so I heard.

TravelInsuranceQ · 25/09/2024 00:30

You could call 101 now rather than waiting.
They could well be gone by the morning - round here the grow houses only really smelled when they were drying it, that's when people noticed the grow houses in the posh road with the expensive houses in 😂

Am I being over-dramatic?

Yes, you are. Live and let live. Most of the world has chilled out by it no longer being a criminal offence.

Must better for health than big pharma.

Mama2many73 · 25/09/2024 00:34

House next door to our DS was raided recently. He had often complained to us about the smell, bloke who lived there was white british but 'missing' often.
Police called after the raid, asked if they noticed anything and when they said they had smelled weed the police said they should report it, even if it turns out to be nothing. They had intelligence which our sons info could have consolidated .

I'm sure your licsl police will be interested to check up on it.

The drug isn’t the issue, the associated criminal activity that goes with it is. Trafficking, laundering and violence go hand in hand. You don’t get the drugs without the other.

Agree with the sentiment but the Albanian grown weed is nasty, it’s disgustingly strong and often sprayed with chemicals or synthetic cannabinoids which can be harmful and incredibly addictive. Not to mention the exploitative practices used in tending their plants, damage to the environment as they often use banned pesticides and chemicals and then dump their equipment in a lay-by or beautiful woodland or a farmers field.

I am massively pro legalisation of cannabis, but not like this ^^.

Allowing individuals or organisations to grow a limited number of plants for personal consumption or safe and verified retail sale would be so much safer for everyone, as well as de-platforming some really nasty criminal enterprises and creating a source of revenue for the country. The British government is so behind on this, it’s embarrassing.

Edited

I also think if we are to legalise cannabis in the UK there needs to be a mandatory age limit so that it is not used under the age of 25, given what we know about its impact on the developing brain.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Which is why it should be decriminalised.
Cocaine is a much bigger problem anyway. Even traces found in the Parliament toilets I read....

Even the Gardai in Ireland couldn't give a shit with people smoking a joint in the garden when called to remove a violent man out of somebody's house.

Also gross

suburberphobe · 25/09/2024 00:51

Gross indeed.

Another reason it should be decriminalised.

I've been in shops in Italy and Switzerland where it was openly on sale.

Holland too of course, coffeeshops. All tried and tested, they pay their tax.

Better some weed than weird pills and chemical shit.

Look at the problem in USA with Fentanyl etc. It's apparently making its way to Europe I read.

Heroin

The painkiller is said to be up to 100 times stronger than morphine and is entering UK markets.

I’m a huge fan of decriminalization. I’m not a fan of random on the internet saying it’s 100% certain that dude next door is Albanian.
