Ate a takeaway at the weekend that didn't feel quite right. No obvious smell or anything, just kind of nasty and left an unpleasant after taste.

Woke up feeling rotten Sunday and have had on/off diarrhoea since, usually made worse by eating anything too heavy. Today and yesterday I've also had a gnawing, burning sensation in my stomach lining which is really horrible at times.

I'm not certain it's linked to the takeaway but it seems a big coincidence. I'm presuming food poisoning would be more constant (I've been ok for most of the day, it just seems to come on badly in the evening and mornings). It's the burning stomach pain that has me stumped. That feels like it's in a completely different higher area of my abdomen. Like my stomach lining.

Not sure it's worthy of seeing the doctor yet but I'm very confused.

Gallstones made worse by the takeaway???

rideitout23 · 24/09/2024 18:29

Never even considered gallstones, had no other symptoms but the stomach pain does fit. It's kind of like an acidic burning pain. In the centre not the right hand side.

It sounds like food poisoning and almost certainly from the take away.

I definitely think it's linked to the takeaway but I've had food poisoning before and it was more constant and cleared up quicker.
This is manageable in that I'm able to go to work but I feel 'off' all the time and am barely eating during the day because I'm scared it'll go right through me. At night after my evening meal I've had horrific diarrhoea the past two nights.
And the burning stomach pain seems to come in waves throughout the day.

Call your Dr for a check up. Has it been 5 days? If so they'll be interested and may want to look into it.

No it's only been since Sunday morning (takeaway was Saturday night) so not that long I guess but it's not letting up.

If you're getting worse not better and are worried call 111 for advice, it's what they're there for. I hope you get well soon.

Usually, food poisoning would present very quickly and suddenly about 6 to 8 hours later.

You can report to environmental health department of your council if you have concerns about the takeaway.

Yep food poisoning...gave myself it last year. Felt ok most of the time, but ended up pooing blood as it effected the lining of my gut.
It should pass, drink plenty, rehydration salts etc, try not eating for 24 hours (no I couldn't either).
