Album to think we'd be eaten by the pets?

Inspired by another thread. I have no close friends and mainly wfh. Dc have school and dh can't work.
If hypothetically we all died at the same time ie carbon monoxide I really believe that it could be weeks before anyone found us and we'd have been eaten by the cats and dogs.
If I didn't turn up for work my manager would phone me but that's it as he's in Scotland. My parents wouldn't notice till I hadn't phoned at the weekend then it may take them a while to notice something wrong. Dcs school would probably think they were bunking so again a while till police did a welfare check.
I know it's a depressing thought but anyone else the same?

Should say AIBU to think we'd be eaten by the pets?

Um, not within a few days ..

Cats immediately, dogs soon according to an article I read by a NYC based Coronor 😂

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 24/09/2024 14:21

Jesus! No I don't think you'd be eaten by your pets! For one thing if it killed you it would kill them!

As to the actual point of your post, I think a couple of days absence from school and of non contact absence from work would be enough to trigger you being checked on - I would ask police to go round for a welfare check on a long distance colleague that just vanished.

Hatty65 · 24/09/2024 14:23

The carbon monoxide would have gassed your pets as well.

On the other hand, if I dropped down dead suddenly I reckon my spaniel would give it about 20 minutes before he started on me. He's a greedy bugger.

Stressedgiraffe · 24/09/2024 14:24

That's good to know. I have no idea how long it would take my manager. Maybe quickly as I'm a trainer so there would be passed off students but if im not training could be ages

I know of 2 people who did not turn up to work unexpectedly (in different businesses), and in both cases next of kin were rung to find out if everything was ok. School would absolutely be chasing this too, that’s why you have to call your kids in sick and they chase if they haven’t heard.

PS fairly sure CO poisoning would also kill your pets! Not sure if that makes it better or worse.

A colleague’s dead niece was so badly eaten by her cat, around her face, it took dental records to establish her identity properly.
Ghastly thought.

Try to think of a way someone can be alerted if this scenario is playing on your mind. eg car not moved for 2 of 3 days? Ask neighbour to knock.

Im afraid it’s a crap world out there that you should even have to think about such a tragic event but sadly, eaten or not, hundreds of people die alone and undiscovered for weeks/months and nobody notices.
A sad sign of the times.
We all need to look out for each other. Take quiet unobtrusive notice of neighbour’s routines, movements and curtain habits! 😊❤️

Stressedgiraffe · 24/09/2024 14:49

That's awful.
I think it's a sign of the times.
At least when in the office people would notice quicker.
I'm not awake thinking about it. It just crossed my mind.
The cats would definitely be first to eat us.

My colleagues would be calling the police within the day I didn't materialise online on a day I was due to be working! After trying next of kin. Which is probably my ex....

InterIgnis · 24/09/2024 15:01

Well, if any humans did survive they too would eat us if that was the only option.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 24/09/2024 15:02

So yeah… your pets need oxygen too so I wouldn’t worry about this in a carbon monoxide accident.

But for anything else yeah they’ll eat you until you go bad.

I always found some comfort in that. I mean it’s not like I’m using my body anymore and I’ll happy feed them my carcass if it gives them a chance to be found and rescued!

NothingWrongButTheFire · 24/09/2024 15:06

Flip side. If I died and the only way for my pet to stay healthy and alive while waiting to be found, is to eat me - I hope he does.

I definitely hope he waits until I am dead before he starts, but yeah - he's welcome to the meat once I have no more use of it Grin

Gettingbysomehow · 24/09/2024 15:08

I wouldn't mind being eaten if it saved the lives of my cats. I'm generous like that.

happytobee · 24/09/2024 15:10

I know of someone who hadn’t heard from their sibling in a week or so, went to the house and didn’t get an answer, called the police and the dogs had eaten most of her face …
If it was carbon monoxide your pets would die too if that makes it any better for you OP Confused

If a member of staff wasn't in contact or in work for a couple of days I would check. We all live close to each other so I'd go round, I also know their spouses so would call one of them if needs be. I also know which of them has cats.

If I didn't turn up for work it would probably take a bit longer for someone to text, as I'm more senior... and do less actual work so it would take longer for it to be a problem.

They also know I have a cat.

Cats would definitely eat you...probably while you were warm.
