To be frustrated by people who always try to one-up others’ problems or experiences?

I have a friend who constantly tries to outdo others’ problems or experiences with her own, no matter how serious or trivial. It feels like she is trying to make everything a competition. AIBU to find this behaviour annoying and feel that it dismisses others’ experiences?

I have ten friends who do that.

Yanbu at all, it's really annoying.

I’ve heard it called Elevenerife syndrome.

Yep. In Dublin they’re known as Elevenerifers

My exH was like this. He was totally full of shit 95% of the time too. Some people just love to feel superior and important, usually when they’re nothing special.

It is very annoying, but not much to do about it.
