Gisele Pelicot

Hi I didn't see a recent thread on this.

Is anyone following the trial in the Gisele Pelicot case.

Obviously the whole thing is awful.

Now the men who raped her are on the witness stand.

One thing that one of the men said really struck me.

He said (this isn't word for word, but it was along these lines) "I hope men in the future see a woman as a person, and not just something that is owned by her husband."

Is that how some men see us now, as just things owned by their husbands?

The whole case is disgusting.

I've been following the case. On YouTube comments you still have people saying they don't believe it really happened 🤦‍♀️.
I'm surprised one of the perps said that. Then again I'm not because these men were operating as decent citizens I imagine so are capable of seeming both human and like animals all in the same person.

What's a bit uncanny is a recent film release I just watched. I won't name it, but it's weirdly reflective of this scenario involving men and drugged non consensual sex.

I always believed it happened.

When i was younger I did a few summer jobs in Greece.

There were so many stories of men drugging women and raping them.

There are a lot of drugs out there.

Also the depravity of some men has absolutelty no limits.

I think men label some women as whores and some as angels . By labelling them as whores it makes ( in their minds ) their behaviour acceptable. "Ah well she's just a slag anyway " is something I used to hear a lot in my youth . Angels are the women In their lives , wives mothers and daughters.

Abbylikeswine · 24/09/2024 11:24

It's a very sad case.

Of course it's convenient for the men to "believe" she consented.

They never asked her.
They didn't care.

I wonder why they can't find the other men who raped her. I'm thinking it's "high up" men that they don't want to admit where on that website and raped Gisele.

Devonshiregal · 24/09/2024 11:44

Is this the woman whose husband drugged her?

what must her day to day life been like? I mean surely he must’ve been horrible and abusive anyway as drugs make you spin and feel awful and she’d have bruising and pain and probably bleeding? I can’t imagine she just had a nice quiet life watching tv and drinking tea with her husband and then at night he did that?

Yes it is that woman.

She has said that their marriage was totally fine and that she had absolutely no idea about it.

Men can put on two faces

Yes. One of the rapists said in his defence, that she was his wife and therefore they could do what they liked. (With his permission).

You have to remember that the men were on a website which was specifically about women being drugged and raped, so I wouldn't take their justifications as evidence that all men feel the same.

Having said that, sexual assault and rape has no consequences in this country, it's a free for all.

Honeytutu · 24/09/2024 11:58

Wasn't he convicted of upskirting ? Why did she stay with him after that ?

Yes, I think she believed that she was in a normal, respectful marriage.

However, she and her adult children suspected that she had a form of dementia, as she was often forgetful and confused. They now realise that it was side effects from the drugs he gave her.

Gisele had also visited her doctor regarding several gynecological issues, and the issues had been dismissed as age related.

It is horrifying to think that there are many men in all walks of life with the opinion that we are just items/chattel belonging to our husband, and not actual people with our own agency.

Whothefuckdoesthat · 24/09/2024 12:00

Is that how some men see us now, as just things owned by their husbands? Yes. Cast your mind back to your teens and twenties, where men would ask you for your phone number and wouldn’t accept no for an answer without an argument. Tell them you had a boyfriend and they’d back right off, straight away. They don’t respect a woman’s right to say no to them, they only respect another man’s ‘ownership’.

That's so true.

I remember being in a nightclub with my friend when we were early twenties. This man kept harassing my friend, and she kept saying no.

When she walked away from him again, He then turned to me and said "does she have a boyfriend"

And I said yes.(she didnt) Just to get him to go away .

I knew that if I said no, that he would just get angry.

We had to use the word "boyfriend" to get him to leave her alone.

I think he was arrested for the upskirting, and it was when the police seized his computer that they found the videos of the rapes. That’s how he was caught.

I don't think she did, did she? He got caught upskirting, and when the police checked his phone/devices for that they found the videos of Gisele and that's the first she knew of it.

It made my blood run cold when I saw it reported that the defence of some of the men was along the lines of 'she's his wife he said we could so it was fine.' it seems to be a common opinion among them that she was basically his property and it was much the same as borrowing his car.

There was one who said something about not being a rapist because he hadn't grabbed her in the street or something.

It's just completely wtf. I can't understand if they honestly believe what they're saying or if they're just casting about for some bollocks they think makes them look better.

Themelba · 24/09/2024 12:07

In a separate case, the husband has also been charged with the rape and murder of a woman in 1991.

It shocks me - but she is a very brave lady for letting it be public so that those who are charged can’t hide behind the anonymity of it being a rape trial.

pinkfleece · 24/09/2024 12:09

Did you see the comment by the mayor of the town (sorry haven't RTFT, may have been mentioned already) - he basically shrugged and said 'no-one died, it wasn't that bad. With those attitudes around..........

NoBinturongsHereMate · 24/09/2024 12:23

Do you really think this is a good moment for a not-all-men?

Not all men. But over 80 of them who took part. And the ones who arrived, realised what was going on and left - but didn't report. And the 'disciple' who did the same to his own wife. And the police/prosecutors in the earlier upskirting case (not the one that led to this prosecution) who matched his DNA to a 1999 case, but did nothing because that case had been closed - and who clearly didn't give him enough of a sentence to act as a deterrent to future offending. And the mayor of the town - not charged, so we must assume he's not one of the 'missing 30' - who made a public statement saying 'no women died and there were no children involved, so the family will get over it'.

But no, the thing to focus on is not all men.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 24/09/2024 12:25

OP, there's a detailed thread following the case on the feminism board.

Try thinking about what the person is saying before jumping in with the it's NAM shit. That's not what I was saying and perhaps you should have clarified if you weren't sure.

Theres places on Reddit to trade pictures of your girlfriends. Do you think these women know?

Told you guys, most men are predatory..but what do I know?

One of the men's solicitors has posted a video of herself on Instagram (I saw it on Twitter) - singing Wake me up before you go go.
Unfuckingbelievable

Bangwam1 · 24/09/2024 12:38

If anyone wants to argue that they’re not, talk to a sex worker. They see what men are really about.
