Gisele Pelicot

Hi I didn't see a recent thread on this.

Is anyone following the trial in the Gisele Pelicot case.

Obviously the whole thing is awful.

Now the men who raped her are on the witness stand.

One thing that one of the men said really struck me.

He said (this isn't word for word, but it was along these lines) "I hope men in the future see a woman as a person, and not just something that is owned by her husband."

Is that how some men see us now, as just things owned by their husbands?

The whole case is disgusting.

I wonder why they can't find the other men who raped her. I'm thinking it's "high up" men that they don't want to admit where on that website and raped Gisele.

I read it was because some of the men's faces weren't visible on the photos so no way of IDing them. I don't know why their details weren't found on whatever device he used to communicate, I guess some people can hide this?.
I hope the ones not named live the rest of their lives in utter fear of one day being caught.

The whole case is beyond shocking, her husband, the man she is supposed to trust above all, did this and did it for YEARS. Accusing her of having affairs when she went to the Dr with various Gynaecological issues. The whole case is awful and she is incredibly brave to stand in court and face them all.

To sum up the nth rooms

Chat rooms will 100k plus men who have to share a picture of their wife, daughter (that she’s unaware of) to get in

Wasn't he convicted of upskirting ? Why did she stay with him after that ?

That’s when it all came out about what he had done.

Devonshiregal · 24/09/2024 12:43

Abbylikeswine · 24/09/2024 11:45

Yes it is that woman.

She has said that their marriage was totally fine and that she had absolutely no idea about it.

Men can put on two faces

So what about the physical symptoms? Unconscious people tend to need a lot of hauling around to be moved and bruises etc? Internal pain? For the record not at all saying it didn’t happen just trying to understand. I mean my marriage is happy and it’s like…could I randomly be being drugged and raped? I mean I get the blacking out thing as I’ve been drugged several times and SAd but for me I felt spinny and dizzy when I first consumed the drink.. so did she have these symptoms and wonder why she felt ill in the evenings? How do we know if this is happening to us and how do we prevent it from happening to other people?

Bangwam1 · 24/09/2024 12:47

Can we talk about the pharmacist who supplied this man with 400+ heavy duty sedatives a month?

Or the doctor who somehow missed out on telling her of her three STDs?

Or the mayor who just wants it to all go away, it’s bothering him

ZoeyBartlett · 24/09/2024 12:52

@Devonshiregal she did feel off/odd in mornings after being drugged. It was suggested she had early Alzheimer's and that is what she thought until it all came out.

Her husband also made the men not smoke, wear after shave and cut their nails to reduce the risk of waking her.

Utterly horrendous.

That’s when it all came out about what he had done.

There were 2 arrests for upskirting. One in approx 2010, with a pen camera. That was when they found, but did not follow up, the DNA match to the rape of an estate agent. He was let off with a fine, so may have managed to hide it from Gisele completely- and if not would I'm sure have downplayed it. 'Moment of madness, not serious - look, they only gave me a fine so I can't rally have done anything bad..'.

The second in 2020 with his phone camera, which led to a hard drive check that found the videos for this current case.

She thought she was very ill. Went to the doctor many times - accompanied by her devoted husband, who no doubt steered the conversation.

There's an excellent drama on BBC IPlayer called 'Sambre: Anatomy of a Crime' based on the true story of a serial rapist in France. Very moving and respectful towards the victims, especially as they don't show the rapes but focus on the traumatic aftermath for the victims, the struggle of those who tried to help and the hunt for the rapist (you know who it is early on). It shows how the misogynistic attitudes of French officials meant it took 30 years to catch the bloody bastard.

BanditsWife · 24/09/2024 13:13

It’s highly uncomfortable to think that we live in a world where men do this. It’s highly uncomfortable that Gisele Pelicot was unaware and her symptoms were dismissed and/or attributed to other things. It’s also highly uncomfortable for us all to think of how many men were aware, involved and complicit. We all want to think it wouldn’t happen us, which leads some people to question how she didn’t know.

But the fact is she didn’t know and you might or I might not know if it was happening to us. It is really unfair, to the point of practically victim blaming, to keep asking how she didn’t know and why she didn’t leave him earlier. Gisele Pelicot is a hero and has sacrificed what was left of her privacy to show the world how awful men can be.

Did you see the comment by the mayor of the town (sorry haven't RTFT, may have been mentioned already) - he basically shrugged and said 'no-one died, it wasn't that bad. With those attitudes around..........

The default/knee jerk response is so often to side with the man.
I think the basis for this response is that animals -social animals- are generally set up to align themselves with the most powerful individual. This is it basic self protection mechanism; the most powerful people will have access to the best resources, and have the greatest ability to cause you harm if you upset them.

One of the men's solicitors has posted a video of herself on Instagram (I saw it on Twitter) - singing Wake me up before you go go.
Unfuckingbelievable

Saw that as well. What a piece of shit that female defence lawyer is Angry

This is a highly disturbing case. This poor lady has been "leant out " for free to disgusting entitled men who treat women worse than cattle! Men who no doubt go home to their "perfect wife and daughters " with a clear conscience, as they somehow manage to separate their dreadful activities .Poor Gisele who most probably knew some of her attackers .One was believed to have come to the house to fix her bicycle!I think she is one of the bravest women in the world to stand up an tell everyone of he dreadful ordeal

ClosingTheDoorOnThePast · 24/09/2024 13:52

Themelba · 24/09/2024 12:07

In a separate case, the husband has also been charged with the rape and murder of a woman in 1991.

It shocks me - but she is a very brave lady for letting it be public so that those who are charged can’t hide behind the anonymity of it being a rape trial.

Pelicot has been charged with murder? Where did you see this?

My feeling is that what enables them to be nice to the good women is that they outsource their hatred and need to denigrate onto women that can be put into the bad category.

In court for filming under womens' clothing but "no sexual element" WTF? - www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5158116-in-court-for-filming-under-womens-clothing-but-no-sexual-element-wtf

And yet here in the UK we have this. I'm utterly baffled tbh.

One of the men that had sex with her was HIV positive.

She caught 4 STIs.

Her husband had no concern for her wellbeing at all.

Its scary how little any of us really knkw someone.

They now think that her husband murdered a woman.

I saw an article where they asked Gisele about her husband and the murder case.

She said "I don't think he is capable if murdering someone, but then we never really know who we live with".

There aren't really words to describe what he is; monster feels too inocuous.

Now we're dealing with Al Fayed who roamed Harrods like it was his personal harem, raping, harassing and sexually assaulting women.

It seems never ending.

The world does seem to have gone very dark lately.

I know it was always there, but the rape cases seem to involved into gang rapes, drugged rapes, raping women with crutches (that was an awful story with a footballer).

It's like some men can't stop themselves, have no limits, and are becoming darker and darker, cruellest and crueller and more sadistic.

What next.

What is stupid about these men is they will rape and do awful things, and never seem to stop to think that it will also ruin their own lives with prison. They're like animals, they don't seem to think of any consequences.

I'm afraid that I don't know any women who haven't been sexually assaulted or raped. By sexually assaulted I mean unwanted touching.

We have the broken window effect where seemingly mild sexual harassment is ignored meaning that men become more and more emboldened because there are no consequences for their behaviour.

Society ensures that they get away with it because they blame women and the law isn't effective. So men feel entitled to sexually harass and assault women.

What I'm saying is that it's more common than anyone realises and it's estimated that 83% of victims don't report.
