Never had a problem with wind until recently. Have been to the doctor's and they have done the bowel cancer test (clear) but haven't made any suggestions about how to manage it. It's not too much of a problem during the day, but first thing in the morning is bad. I am going away next week and sharing a room, so am paranoid that I will fart in my sleep. Had anyone else had this and successfully managed it? My diet hasn't changed, I don't drink fizzy drinks, I do a reasonable amount of exercise. The only thing that has changed in my life is starting the menopause.

I don't know how well they work but you could try charcoal tablets?

Beat me to it!

Missingpate · 22/09/2024 21:28

it might be hormonal and connected to menopause. When I was pregnant it first kicked off for me, and in more recent years (peri) I have also developed a food intolerance (alliums) that took a while to figure out but caused similar issues amongst other things. You might have developed a food intolerance, it can happen any time and again might be connected to hormonal changes. I wouldn’t want to share a room either but keep some emergency charcoal tablets to hand when travelling just in case I eat some onions by mistake, which is annoyingly easy to do. Get some of those, and start keeping a food diary to see what affects you, is my tip.

Avoid dairy and take a good probiotic

Rainraingoaway21 · 22/09/2024 21:30

Try removing gluten. Really works for me.

Carpedimum · 22/09/2024 21:33

Go Keto, you’ll never fart again.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 22/09/2024 21:34

I think you may be overreacting just a little bit. If you fart in your sleep it’s not like you’ll know and your roommate will also be sleeping (and probably farting). Get up and go to the bathroom first thing and, well, if someone says anything about bathroom noises that’s on them. Polite manners dictates that bathroom noises are never heard let alone commented on.

Ive recently stopped eating bread mon - fri and (sadly) its made a big difference

MustyDooDah · 22/09/2024 21:38

In an effort to find a way to lose some weight, I cut out bread (still have the odd bit of proper sourdough baked locally).

My previously notorious farts have vanished!

ascothelp · 22/09/2024 21:39

Everyone farts in their sleep!

shellyleppard · 22/09/2024 21:41

New era homeopathic remedy number 8 always works for me. Settles my windy guts lovely

CalloftheWind · 22/09/2024 21:42

I suspected it would be an intolerance. Will be ordering the charcoal as a first step and looking at diet more long term. I already hate cooking (3 DC with various things they won't eat) so this is the icing on the cake. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Windeze are godsend 😁

Theunamedcat · 22/09/2024 22:08

Buscapam is fantastic

If they smell take a probiotic Holland and Barrett do a good one

DrCoconut · 22/09/2024 22:31

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease during the Covid lockdowns. Terrible wind can be one of the symptoms.

TwinklyNight · 22/09/2024 23:27

That can be a side effect of having a B-12 deficiency.

suki1964 · 22/09/2024 23:45

Menopause, and white bread had to go, crippled with the wind and I only have to sniff white flour and the wind machine cranks up

CulturalNomad · 23/09/2024 00:15

Dairy has been off limits for me since menopause. Seemed to happen overnight but dairy makes me feel bloated, gassy and miserable.

My mum used to buy some tablets called windcheaters.

Razorrain · 23/09/2024 00:20

You what? If you fart in your sleep (like everyone does) usually the other person is asleep to. And if they heard, well, what would you think if you head someone fart in their sleep?

is this some kind of fart/ poo troll

We used to wear these

Cheerfulcharlie · 23/09/2024 00:25

Try cutting out (or cutting down) on dairy for a bit, especially milk or 'softer' dairy products like yogurt, ice-cream and soft cheese. Hard cheese can be less bothersome.

Thats unkind

I still have hang ups using public loos from school days, and cant have more then a wee whilst at work. Ive been known to drive home if I need the loo

Im no shrinking violet, Ill drop me drawers behind a tree for a wee, but to make bowel noises , in the vicinity of others who I haven't shared bodily fluids with, is just not happening

Razorrain · 23/09/2024 01:13

@suki1964 respectfully that’s not normal and is perhaps something you could seek help with
