Norovirus help please

I'm a full-time unpaid carer to my young adult who has complex needs. I'm a single parent and have no family help at all.

They came down with norovirus last night - projectile vomited everywhere and have severe diarrhoea to the point they're not able to hoist transfer to the toilet in time.

I've come down with it tonight. I'm in so much pain, vomiting and still have to give care to my young adult so have to be up close with them to do everything for them while so unwell myself and they're still being sick.

I have to prepare all food etc (they still want to eat a bit) how can I stop us infecting each other over again? I'm washing my hands about 100 times a day, wearing disposable gloves to handle contaminated clothing, washing contaminated clothing at 60 degrees. I'm not sure what else I can do or if there's anything else I should be doing.

I've placed a shopping delivery for tomorrow for dettol wipes and dettol spray plus other bits. I have rehydration sachets but they're not keen on them - drinking plenty of fluids though so I think that's OK.

Any advice to get through this would be much appreciated!

I dont get the 'young adult' and 'they' etc 🤔 confusing. Stop bloody eating for a start and all you can do is just drag yourself through it. Been there before! Poor you get well soon.

It's perfectly easy to understand, the OP is obviously going through a hard time, if you have nothing nice to say just scroll on by!

Hope you are both feeling better OP 💐

Young adult feeling much better thankfully! Coming up to 48 hours for them.

I'm feeling like death warmed up but can't rest as still have to do all care. Hopefully tomorrow will be my day 🤞

That's good news - horribly powerful bug but often short lived. I hope you both have a better night tonight and that you continue to feel better. Take care x

When we have sickness bugs in this house, I find that ice pops are kept down better than actual liquid like water/squash etc. I assume because they can't be chugged?

SparklyLimeJoker · 24/09/2024 14:44

We have survived and out the other side. Short lived but bloody hell it was horrendous! Thanks to all for the solidarity and advice.

House has been Clinell wiped to oblivion all door and window handles, remote controls, phones, ipads, light switches, all kitchen cupboard handles, fridge freezer handles, light switches, bed rail, wheelchair, hoist (slings chucked on the highest wash they could handle), commode, loo etc.

I'll need to buy/borrow a steam cleaner to do the riser recliner (it's fabric) bed frame and mattress unless there's another way to sanitise them that I've not thought of?
