Vaping outside

Yesterday I went out to a local village with my husband and child and we were walking down the high street (i was vaping) and a woman with a pram barges past and says "excuse me can I get past - I don't want your vape in my face". I completely get people don't like vaping, fair enough but I had no idea she was even behind me! So was she rude or am I overreacting?

It triggers asthma. If you have to vape, then don't do it while walking on a path because of course there will usually be someone behind you.

I loathe it and I think it's thoughtless on your part.

But people saying we're being precious.... That's just indicative the horrible selfish society we've got now. Everyone out for themselves.

The woman behind you was probably quite stressed by it. I think if you have an antisocial habit then other people coughing or making the odd remark is going to happen.

Vaping in front of your child is not ideal

RaininSummer · 22/09/2024 18:54

She was abrupt for sure but it's vile walking behind vapes.

kitsuneghost · 22/09/2024 18:58

You realise the fumes and habit will also rub off on your own child

Bit of a mixed bag here 😅 seems like vaping is very decisive. I'm going to completly ignore the judgemental comments about vaping near my child.

You might as well fart walking down the street, both pretty gross

We'll ban farting around people as well, oh and strong perfume

I smoke a vape which doesn't smell - really! I've asked loads and loads of people and they all state they honestly can't smell it. It's isn't a 'flavoured' but a
that's just my preference. It also doesn't give off much 'smoke'.
However, if I'm out and about and need a puff, I do it out of the way of others. I don't like to walk and vape anyway.
I think she was rude to you, you haven't got eyes in the back of your head. A simple 'excuse me' would suffice.

I used to smoke changed to vaping and I always tell her it's bad and she should never do it. I agree it's not ideal but life in general is usually not ideal.

@Brownstains times change. People did put up with it and it was normal although I remember how horrible it was stinking of smoke from your clothes after a night out and your hair.

That was a long time ago. It's noticeable now because we don't smoke indoors anymore.

I think if you smoke or vape then you are selfish. You have to be. Because you know people who don't will dislike it, and yet if you want to smoke or vape, you'll just have to do it anyway.

You are perfectly entitled to carry on smoking and vaping, and other people are perfectly entitled to hate it and complain.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 22/09/2024 19:08

She was being a bit over dramatic about it, but I also don't like walking behind people vaping.

Skyrainlight · 22/09/2024 19:20

Why would she want your vape in her face? I totally get why she wanted to get past you.

Vaping is the most tragic past time. Looks common and smells revolting. No one wants to breathe in your insipid exhalations. YABU.

What's tragic is that you don't understand the difference between pastime and past time!

I don't think a blip in autocorrect is really comparable to vaping but I suspect you vape yourself and so disagree.

I wonder if these people ensure they never drink alcohol around their children either? Although that's worse because at least smoking doesn't change your thought processes!

Rubyandscarlett · 23/09/2024 00:47

Probably judging you for vaping in front of your own child too. As l would. Yabu.

Why? Don't you care about their health?

Funnywonder · 23/09/2024 08:19

LollySox · 22/09/2024 18:27

That's the thing I get that people don't want my vape near them fair enough but I just had no idea she was there. Personally if I were in her position I would have just said "excuse me can I get past?" And left it at that. Also it's not one of these giant vapes that gives off a huge cloud.

I agree with you OP. It's perfectly reasonable for her to feel like she needed to get away from the vaping, especially when she had a child with her, but there was no need for her to be so rude and dramatic. Does she expect you to have eyes on the back of your head? I come across people vaping all the time and just give them a wide berth, mostly because of the smell, but I completely understand people's concerns.
