Long story short, friend who often talks about how well off she and her husband are is coming to visit tomorrow (day trip). Called her today to discuss the plan and she dropped in the conversation that she currently has COVID but isn't feeling ill so she'll still be coming. I don't want to get COVID. I've had it once and I was really really ill, 2 weeks off work and really run down for weeks after. I appreciate you can catch all sorts off anyone at any time but I do try and avoid it where possible.

So I've told her that I don't want to meet because she is ill (I also wouldn't want to meet her if she had flu or something else contagious either, it's not because of COVID specifically). She says I'm being OTT and insist that I reimburse her train fare (about £30).

AIBU to not want to meet her and not reimbursing her?

Of course YANBU, she is a thoughtless selfish idiot

Spenditlikebeckham · 20/09/2024 20:06

If she gives you Covid wil she cover any bills you can't pay if you aren't earning? Of course she wouldn't..

PlantDoctor · 20/09/2024 20:07

Very thoughtless of her. Yanbu

Newsenmum · 20/09/2024 20:07

She’s ridiculous. Imagine if it was the other way around. I’d really start to distance after this.

Arlanymor · 20/09/2024 20:08

Totally ridiculous - she’s being selfish on both accounts, firstly for wanting to visit when she has infectious and secondly for insisting on being reimbursed. Pay no attention, she doesn’t sound a fabulous friend to be honest so if this puts a flea in her ear then so be it.

MrNarwhal · 20/09/2024 20:09

Wtf is wrong with people!? Yadnbu!!!

Dartmoorcheffy · 20/09/2024 20:11

Can't you meet up outside and keep your distance from her?

She'll be here for about 8 hours and it's set to rain.

No wonder they're well off, I guess she probably doesn't take time off work with Covid in case she loses money - never mind if she passes it to others, and then has the cheek to expect you to refund her ticket. Tell her to get lost OP!

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 20/09/2024 20:16

I don't understand why people test if they aren't going to do anything with the information. If she thinks avoiding covid is OTT, why did she bother to find out if she had it.

halava · 20/09/2024 20:17

She might not have said anything if she has few symptoms and is feeling OK. I wonder why she did?

This is also my thoughts when anyone says this!

Skyrainlight · 20/09/2024 20:20

No way I would see someone with COVID, she is crazy selfish.

NeverEnoughPants · 20/09/2024 20:20

Most train tickets can be changed, even if they can't be refunded, although it might incur an admin fee.

And there's nothing stopping her visiting the area, even if you'd aren't going to be part of the trip!

lightsandtunnels · 20/09/2024 20:27

YANBU. Weird that she did a test if she isn't feeling ill but it's common sense now if you have a contagious anything that you keep a distance from others for a few days at least, especially for non essential things/visits.

Ayechinnyreckon · 20/09/2024 20:32

I also don't know why she did a test if she was planning on ignoring the results. I think it was so she had to work from home though.
