AIBU to tell you to avoid Green Chef like the plague?

Green chef are one of those meal box companies.
I saw an offer online but to look at the menu you had to add payment details.
I looked at the menu and they had automatically stuck two meals in my cart which I removed. One of which contained an ingredient which my child is very allergic to.
I looked at the menu but there was nothing I wanted so cancelled the subscription and left.
4 days later I got the box delivered containing the 2 meals that had been auto added to the cart.
I've explained all this to them. They say they have a 5 day cut off, but I only looked at the site 4 days before it was delivered.
I got my money back as I paid via paypal, but now they are emailing me asking me to pay.

Honestly, I can't afford it. It's "only" £20 but that's a significant amount of my current weekly budget. The food was donated.

So, obviously, please don't use these people, online reviews of this company are full of the same story, but also does anyone have any advice here? I'm trying to contact them again but getting nowhere.

Here are the 2 emails they sent me on signing up and cancelling. You can see they were 5 minutes apart.
Delivery was on the 31st so I didn't even have the 5 days they state to cancel
You can also see the huge phishing scam warning on them, and they went straight to my junk, which I don't check often.

But they're harassing me saying I owe them money. I'm concerned they'll pass it on to a debt agency or something.

Send them the meals back?

Send them the meals back?

Given to a food charity. I received them 3 weeks ago. They wouldn't accept them back. I tried at the time.

This doesn't seem fair at all OP. I wouldn't be happy being sent unsolicited food that couldn't be eaten due to allergies. Personally I'd contact the guardian consumer affairs unit. They may then contact the company on your behalf plus will spread the word of this dodgy practice

@Fohxy you could ask MN to move just your first post to the Legal Matters section here.

I’m unclear about the 5 day thing you mentioned but it sounds like a straight up case where you owe them nothing. hopefully someone can give you reassurance there.

Wish I'd read this before doing EXACTLY what OP did. I had to enter my card details and look for meals to order, decided I didn't like anything to cancelled my subscription. I then went to look at the account and it said my order would be with me on 25 March. I've had to go through phoning them (and it's an overseas call centre which has put me off even more) and cancelling.

I'd avoid using this company.

These boxes are actually highly over priced when you consider most meals are a variation on cheap pasta and noodle dishes. Even for the convenience they are an absolute bloody rip off
