Family member awarded enhanced pip - AIBU?

Orangecrocs · 19/09/2024 15:42

My family member has just been awarded enhanced pip in both living and mobility components.
Shes told me that she’s twisted the truth during the assessment and told the assessor that she has lots of pain and can’t really walk at all, but she walks all the time as I see her out and about - we live in a hilly area. I know people who are in a wheelchair and struggle to get enhanced rate - so I really don’t understand how she’s managed this.
I know people will say mind your own business but she’s told me she’s actually lied to them.

Did she fake the medical information to back up her claim as well?

This. These threads are getting tedious now. I would wager that the OP would not say all this to her "family member" thoughHmm

Hedjwitch · 19/09/2024 17:13

Frustrating. DH has heart failure( double by pass at Christmas) and reduced heart function. He cant walk very far before getting breathless and having to stop. He also has diabetic neuropathy and foot ulcers.
Was refused PiP.
We have appealed. They didnt contact any of his medical team at all for information!!

This!!

This is utter bull crap

There has to be medical evidence

Oh good. Another disability benefits bashing thread.

Exactly

Maddy70 · 19/09/2024 17:14

Not sure shes being homest woth you. The amount of medical detail required fro. Doctors is unbearable. They need evidence and a lot of it

TigerRag · 19/09/2024 17:15

OhmygodDont · 19/09/2024 17:10

He needs to appeal and make sure all answers are based on his worst worst days.

That's fraud. it's how you are half the time

20yearrenovation · 19/09/2024 17:15

PIP needs to change to a non cash benefit.

UC also needs to change to be a mostly non cash benefit.

No need for cash in this day and age.

All benefits should be able to be audited and spending traceable.

All tax payers should be able to see how their contributions are being spent.

TomeTome · 19/09/2024 17:15

I think it is highly unlikely your relative has told you how hard her life is and you DEFINITELY need evidence.

Look at the pass rate…

In the quarter ending January 2024 there were:

  • 210,000 registrations and 210,000 clearances for new claims
  • 30,000 changes of circumstance reported and 32,000 cleared
  • 21,000 registrations and 21,000 clearances for DLA reassessments
  • 130,000 planned award reviews registered and 120,000 cleared
  • 71,000 mandatory reconsiderations (MRs) registered and 63,000 cleared

As in my post above explains, clearance rate is not award rate. Clearance rate relates to the processing of claims.

Latest award rates,:

Award rates for all claims (excluding withdrawn cases) over the period February 2019 to January 2024 (last 5 years) show that:

41% receive an award for normal rules new claims

69% receive an award for normal rules DLA reassessment claims

99% of SREL (people nearing the end of life) claimants are awarded PIP

All from the DWP site.

Unfortunately, it sounds like Labour are going to change the goalposts which will impact adversely a lot more people than the cheaters.

But that's ok as a lot of the posters here can content themselves in the knowledge that noone is getting something that they're not.

Sparklywhiteteeth · 19/09/2024 17:17

This is very very unlikely to be true. It’s overwhelmingly likely to be you she’s lying to and she doesn’t wish you to know details of her condition. Which could be other conditions undisclosed to you inc mental health.

I cam see why she doesn’t want to tell you though.

How do I pay my mum with vouchers? It'd cost far more for social services to give me a carer

And how much would this waste?

babore · 19/09/2024 17:18

I claim pip. I had to write down all my diagnoses. Lengthy forms, reports from my physiotherapist, occupational therapist, neurologist, gp and I STILL needed an assessment before I was awarded.

You're making this crap up and I'm sick to death of these benefits bashing threads.

And child benefit also? Thank goodness you have no bearing on how benefits are paid.

PandoraSox · 19/09/2024 16:22

Oh good. Another disability benefits bashing thread.

Don't you just love them? The ignorance around PIP is huge.
It's almost as if some disabilities are invisible.and should be disclosed to any old random who has an opinion.
For the uneducated out there....disabled does not always have to be physical.
And while I am at it, the disabled do not get a free car. Blue badges are not just for physical disabilities.
Nobody but the claimant themselves knows how their disability affects them.
You cannot diagnose someone just by knowing them .
Jeez, when will this kind of thread ever stop !

DejaTu · 19/09/2024 17:19

If your relative is telling you the truth - it’s fraud in black and white.

Some might be OK with it, but I and many others would not.

It all comes down to values I suppose.

No they rarely do….the onus is on you to provide this….so moving forward make sure you have copies of all clinic letters from every speciality involved ( eg OT , dieticians , Diabetes team) as well as the principal speciality team , in this case cardiology…..request copies of your partners gp records and provide a repeat prescriotpion …good luck

Bank transfer? Is your Mum your employee? I am not necessarily talking about vouchers just not a system that allows cash to be taken and no accountability for how it is spent.

PandoraSox · 19/09/2024 17:20

Daltonbear1 · 19/09/2024 17:03

Where did you get that info from because previously there has been a lot of mandatory considerations that after quite a long time waiting and court they got passed so it’s not easy for everyone

@DejaTu is wrong. That is not the award or "pass" rate, but the clearance rate, which relates to the DWP's processing of claims. I have posted the award rates on my previous post.

Exactly. I've said before that some people will lie about their disabilities - as in they won't tell people the extent of it or what they really have. I mean no one's exactly going to say they shit themselves

I am clinging to the hope that you are just quoting the shite that is usually spouted around PIP. And not that you actually believe in what you have written .

Why? This is reasonable to me. I believe labour have shown their intentions clearly. Radical reform will happen. Cash is no longer needed in this society.

DejaTu · 19/09/2024 17:24

Correction, yes the clearance rate.

Apologies Dalton.

Well that’s what the places that help people fill in their pip forms say to do.

Doingmybest12 · 19/09/2024 17:25

I think if you truly feel strongly about thus individual case then tell the relevant people. Talking on here won't do anything, she clearly thinks what she's done is fair enough.
