Pringles taste different!

Potpuree · 18/09/2024 20:12

at first I thought it was a bad tub but every tub I’ve had over the last few weeks has tasted the same!! Has anyone else noticed Pringles taste different recently? Specifically the original/ready salted ones? They used to be my favourite crisp and now something just doesn’t taste right at all! Please tell me I’m not imagining it and someone else has noticed it too, haha

The first response has been removed by Mumsnet. Can anybody tell me what it said, or what the change has been?

We went off Walkers when they dropped pure sunflower oil in favour of a blended oil, they started tasting rank. I'd be sorry to find out that Pringles have gone the same way ...

EngineEngineNumber9 · 14/10/2024 12:26

They’ve been gross for ages, so thin and flavourless. It’s not bad for my waistline that my favourite snacks all taste like shite now.

Aldi lightly salted crinkle cut crisps are my current fave crisps and LU for biscuits ever since Bahlsen/Leibniz became inedible.

Username12284949 · 14/10/2024 12:28

I actually just watched a Tik Tok about this and there are comments from people saying the have complained to Pringles about the change and Pringles have responded to say they are trying to lower the salt content but due to so many complaints they are going back to their original recipe until they can come up with a better alternative.

itsnotabouthepasta · 14/10/2024 13:30

They seemed to have a thicker powdery coating of the "salt" too

@DwightDFlysenhower that's exactly it. It felt like my tongue was coated in utter crap.

Onand · 14/10/2024 13:36

Pringles are bad enough as Ultra processed ‘food’ but the Aldi and Lidl versions will be made from the cheapest of cheap ingredients. You’re literally eating flavoured powder starch, may as well be made from salted crematorium sweepings.

Avoid at all costs.

Onand · 14/10/2024 13:39

Also if you’ve had Covid recently (symptomless too) it can affect how you taste certain chemicals. Vinegary flavours taste very strange to me now.

ILoveAnnaQuay · 14/10/2024 13:39

I don't know about Pringles as I rarely eat them, but Walkers have definitely changed the recipe for their Cheese and Onion crisps. I buy a packet once a week as a lunchtime treat and they are very different now. Really unpleasant

May i suggest Golden Wonder cheese and onion crisp to you? They literally taste just like they use to back in the day! 😉

BashfulClam · 14/10/2024 13:50

We thought we’d bought a ‘bad batch’ and threw them out.

That is a bit dramatic

I'd love to know what was in the post that was removed that the OP here agreed with.

I bought a tube of Ready Salted Pringles recently and they have definitely changed the recipe for starters - no idea why they taste so different but they are horrible. I was planning on getting a few tubes for over Christmas but I think I'll pass this year if they are all like this.

They are absolutely horrid now.

InfoSecInTheCity · 14/10/2024 14:05

I think its the change in packaging, they've moved to a fully cardboard tube now instead of the foil lined ones with the metal bottom.

We managed to get an older tube from Iceland the other day and they were much better.

Skybluepinky · 14/10/2024 14:07

They have varied the ingredients as nutritional information has changed, they rnt as crisp anymore either.

Dawevi · 14/10/2024 14:14

I noticed this a few months ago and haven't had any since. My kids can't tell a difference though.

BedBathAndBeyonce · 04/10/2024 20:31

Lidl ones are good and GF

I read somewhere that they are no longer GF but i haven't been to lidl to check.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 14/10/2024 14:23

They used to be exquisite but now are all crumbly and musty tasting

DucksAndBubbles · 14/10/2024 17:24

I thought it was sneaky of them to change the recipe at the same time as changing the packaging, but to only advertise the change in packaging.
I wrote to complain and got that response about reverting to the original recipe.
They need to do a lot better than that to come up with a low salt recipe that tastes exactly the same.
I don't see why they need to change the original at all, just bring out a separate "low salt" option, and let people choose for goodness sake.

Nasyan · 14/10/2024 17:38

Probably some health thing, usually less salt, sugar or fat, things always taste worse for it.

ahemfem · 14/10/2024 17:40

Oh no! What's happened to them??

SoulMole · 14/10/2024 17:44

.

Pringles taste different!
CurlyhairedAssassin · 14/10/2024 17:49

Not sure why people are referring to them as "crisps". They were never crisps as in thin pieces of potato, fried. They have always been overprocessed shite.

Dehydrated potatoes, sunflower oil, wheat flour, corn flour, rice flour, maltodextrin, emulsifier (E471), salt, colour (annatto norbixin).

Thatis just theOriginal ones. The Sour Cream and onion ones are like this:

NGREDIENTS: Dehydrated potatoes, sunflower oil, wheat flour, corn flour, rice flour, sour cream & onion seasoning (wheat starch, flavour enhancers {monosodium glutamate, disodium guanylate, disodium inosinate}, onion powder, dextrose, sunflower oil, salt, modified maize starch, flavourings {milk}, maltodextrin, sugar, sweet whey powder {milk}, sour cream powder {milk}, glucose syrup powder, acids {citric acid, malic acid}, milk proteins), maltodextrin, emulsifier (E471), salt, colour (annatto norbixin).

They're just a load of fake-tasting crap.

Keighley27 · 17/10/2024 21:53

Got some the other day original pointless and they taste awful couldn't even manage 2 they taste kinda of salt and vinegar somehow won't be buying again

GinAndGooseberries · 17/10/2024 21:56

Agree. Vile. Good for my weight though.

flightless55 · 27/11/2024 11:48

@DwightDFlysenhower exactly this! I just googled the issue and found this thread!
My original Pringles taste like salt and vinegar- they're disgusting!!

richie2sharpie · 20/12/2024 02:54

Yes, I agree and still seems to be a problem, noticed this recently on the Santa branded box of original ready salted for this year, horrible taste and texture what have they done honestly....
