Changing epilepsy meds, please help

I have put this on the general health board, but also reposting here for traffic.

Hi, I am currently taking 100mg briviact twice a day, and 100mg lamotrogine twice a day. Athough greatly improved, I am still experiencing some seizure activity. In addition, the brivact has been causing an unwanted side effect. I have been advised to decrease the brivact to 75mg twice a day, and increase the Lamotrigine to 125mg once a day for two weeks, then 125mg twice a day for two weeks, and then see how I am
I was a bit surprised by this, because as a safety blanket should I not be increasing the Lamotrigine, before decreasing the brivact?
Is this safe?
Advice appreciated!

Could you speak to your epilepsy doctor/ nurse and explain your concerns?
Because changing medication is a worrying process.

Call the nurses helpline at the Neurology institute in Queens square - they will def be able to advise you on this. Number is 020 3448 8627.

I’m on 250mg Lamotrogine split into 2 doses. Took a few diff drugs to settle on this but I’ve never done a double, protocol. Take care & hope all works out for you.

It was the epilepsy nurse I spoke to, something just didn't feel right. She has said a few contradictory things as it is so I'm a bit worried!
