Just wondering how much skinny people eat in a day and if I am over eating?

OP posts:
NagathaCrispy · 18/09/2024 16:44

Size 10, 5'7" tall, 58kg. Today's menu ...

Overnight oats with blueberries for breakfast
Sandwich with granary bread and either chicken, ham, tuna or similar for lunch
Homemade spag bol for dinner
Fruit for snacks
3-4 cups of tea or coffee, 500ml bottle of water
Weekend evenings, I glass of red or rose wine.

Try to stay under 2,000 cals per day,

Sometimes overnight oats replaced with muesli, occasional yoghurt for snacks etc.

Very active - dogs/horses/garden/house, walk up 5 miles or more daily, don't do the gym!

Sunshineonararainydayyy · 18/09/2024 16:45

When I was size 8-10 I pretty much cut out cheese and bread & was disciplined.

Now size 12 and consume far too much bread and cheese!

Other than that drinking water and only occasional alcohol and fizzy drinks helps.

PocketSand · 18/09/2024 16:50

I don't eat breakfast or lunch but my intermittent fasting is dirty because I have tea with full fat milk.

My dinner is probably twice the amount of protein that would be considered normal and fat higher than normal (ie 2 salmon fillets plus sole fillet cooked in butter) but loads of veggies and no carbs. Works for me. Previously PCOS and pre diabetic. I never feel hungry. Expensive though. It's about health rather than weight. And taste. I really enjoy the luxury of the food I eat.

Jamjarcandlestick · 18/09/2024 16:52

I’m a size 10, 5’7

So far I’ve ate:

a slice of toast for breakfast.
three egg omelette with ham, veg and cheese.

I think we’re either going to have fish & chips or bangers and mash for dinner.

I can quite happy skip meals. I have a toddler so kept very busy!

I'm size 10 ish. Weight varies between about 7 st 10lb and 8st 5lb. I'm 5' 3".

I've been the same size for the last 50 years or so, though over that time my diet has totally changed. I eat much better food now than I used to. I rarely eat takeaways or ready-meals or branded breakfast cereals and I haven't eaten red meat or processed meat for about 25 years.

I eat mostly non-UPF home cooked food, comprising mainly of vegetables, fish, tofu, beans of all sorts, lentils, occasionally chicken, occasionally sourdough, salads, fruit, nuts, barley and the occasional piece of very dark chocolate.

A typical daily total intake is between 1,700 and 2,300 calories, about 120g of fat, about 100g of carbs and about 65g of protein.

Isn't it interesting how we're all still different? I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong, looking at your calorie intake?

I'm 8st4(ish), 5ft2 and really need/want to lose 4-7 pounds to get to my happy weight. I seem to gain weight if I eat over 1200 calories and am struggling to lose these few pounds!

Underlig · 18/09/2024 16:56

Skinny is not a nice term to use. And size 10 isn’t skinny in anyone’s books.

HowAmITheCatsGranny · 18/09/2024 16:57

I’m about a size 10, sometimes an 8 in tops.
Yesterday I ate:
Breakfast - two weetabix with a banana and almond milk.
Snack - a strawberry jam donut.
Lunch - toast with peanut butter
Tea - (eaten on my break at work, so admittedly not the best!) one of those shelf stable tuna salad tubs and a latte sachet.
Supper - granola bar (stoats raspberry).
I think I grabbed a couple of squares of chocolate at some point as well..

bluedelphiniums · 18/09/2024 16:59

broccolienthusiast · 18/09/2024 15:30

Was I talking to you? And the question was about food, not your exercise routine.

Rude.

MistyMoonlight · 18/09/2024 16:59

I'm size 10, 5' 10", athletic build. I drink lots of water, don't really eat lots of junk, but I don't watch what I eat. I'm quite active, I have a small holding maintain, on top of my job, and all that entails... I don't go to the gym or anything, but am fit and strong from all the sheep wrestling and chasing and hay hoiking!

ExquisiteEmelda · 18/09/2024 17:00

Well reading some of these meals I’m glad I’m not a size 10. I’m sorry but 2 boiled eggs for dinner? And a slice of bread if you’re really hungry? And the poster who goes without food some days and only has 800 kcals a day? Crazy.

Blueberrymuffin8 · 18/09/2024 17:02

Surely it also depends on height?

Wigtopia · 18/09/2024 17:04

Vegetarian here but Generally…

breakfast - scrambled egg with rocket or wilted spinach(microwaved to wilt), topped with tomato and a little feta or mozzarella

lunch - either left overs from the night before or home prepped cous cous grains with a bunch of veg (depends on what I have but often roasted squash/beetroot then a load of salad type things such as cucumber, peppers, tomatoes etc) with some cubed cheddar or feta, sometimes a few seeds and salad leaves

winter it is more likely to be home made soup for lunch - veg soup that has been slightly mashed with a potato masher but not pulverised so it’s fully liquid. I find the chunkier the soup the more filling it is

dinner - so many different things but maybe veggie spag Bol, maybe jacket potato, maybe home made curry, stew, etc whatever it is, the majority of the plate is filled with salad/high vitamin veg. So yes, a potato is a vegetable but I would have a smaller amount of that than the higher vitamin veg.

snacks - usually one around 10:00/11:00 as I have breakfast very early and will be one of something like apple, banana, 1X ginger biscuit. Just something small to see me through to lunch.

after dinner I often have 2 squares of dark chocolate.

i think the main theme with what I eat (other than it being vegetarian) is that the majority of what is on my plate is fruit/veg/salad and I make sure I eat big portions at mealtimes so I don’t feel the need to snack on junk food.

wombat15 · 18/09/2024 17:04

It will mainly be how much people eat as much as what they eat. I have always been a small size 10 and never given what I eat much thought. I generally don't have breakfast until I have been up a few hours though. Lunch will not be huge and often salad. Tea at about 9 p.m. and certainly the biggest meal of the day.
Also eat chocolate and crisps though. No idea how much calories.

HowDidThisHappenDinesh · 18/09/2024 17:09

I also intermittent fast, although sometimes I will have half a boiled egg in the morning. I make a few devilled eggs to grab and go throughout the week.
Morning: Coffee with oat milk, no sugar (usually two)
Lunch: usually leftovers from the dinner before, but a half portion.
Dinner: almost always homecooked with lots of veg, a protein source, and low carb when possible. This week's menu has been spinach and kale 'pesto' pasta with chicken, steak and ale pie, red thai curry with king prawns, and peanut butter noodle soup with veg and shredded chicken. I'm fortunate I enjoy cooking and have the time to prep things on Monday to cook quickly after work on office days.
On weekends I'm much more lax with my intake so I'll have a high protein brunch and then skip lunch so I have beer or wine with dinner
I've tried to cut down snacking as I found I could eat 1000 empty calories just with snacks if I let myself. I try to make things like devilled eggs, cake with fruit/veg and greek yogurt, or chocolate peanut butter bites to grab if I want a snack. Also dark chocolate. It helps that I don't have much of a sweet tooth.
I'm a size 8 and 5'4 but carry some stubborn fat around my tummy, I weigh more than I look. Since I've focusing on my protein intake I have been less hungry, more energy, and dropped a half inch from my waist. My TDEE is really low so I usually eat about 1400 calories on a weekday.

Zanatdy · 18/09/2024 17:10

I can’t eat more than 1300 ish calories a day or I gain, as I’m short and weigh 9st ish. It’s pretty miserable

Monwmum · 18/09/2024 17:12

What a depressing thread. But at least it has proved what I always thought....I don't overeat AT ALL but have always been over weight! Make it make sense!

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 18/09/2024 17:12

I am an 8-10 and 5ft 4 inches. Today so far I have had:

A cereal bar and some strawberries.

2 crumpets and a bowl of soup plus a yogurt.

For tea I will likely have veggie fajitas with the cheese and dips.

I drink squash (weak), no tea or coffee really. I have recently lost 2 stone after second pregnancy. I was eating a very low carb diet then but have gone back to normal eating and no real weight gain since April. I walk 3/4 times a week with my neighbour. Around 3/4k and have 2 kids under 5 so constantly busy. Not back in work yet. Will probably be different then as less exercise x

HeraMum · 18/09/2024 17:13

Coffee for breakfast- with overnight oats a couple of times a week. Walk the dog fasted. Lunch- avocado on toast or salad. Dinner is veg and halloumi/salmon - few squares of choc. I don’t drink alcohol and walk everywhere

broccolienthusiast · 18/09/2024 17:18

bluedelphiniums · 18/09/2024 16:59

Rude.

Comes with being a teeny tiny, its from all that malnourishment

sparklyfox · 18/09/2024 17:18

I'm a size 10 (5 " 7) and eat loads, probably too much. I am pregnant though.

Today I had...
Breakfast:
Toast (homemade bread) with peanut butter and marmite.
Bowl of full fat Greek yoghurt with berries, muesli and honey.

Snack: Cereal bar

Lunch: Tortellini with leftover ratatoille and cheese
Homemade jam tart

Snack: A mini battenberg slice

Dinner: Not decided yet.

I usually have substantial a snack before bed too!

Porcuine20 · 18/09/2024 17:19

I think honestly a lot of it comes down to metabolism/genetics. I’m size 8 by sheer luck, I just come from a slim family. I don’t eat loads but don’t really watch my diet, and don’t do much exercise, though I have an active job. Today’s food:
2 pains au chocolat and apple juice
half a quiche, banana, 3 plums, packet of crisps
dinner will be pasta with mushrooms, spinach, sundried tomatoes and garlic butter
a few chocolate biscuits later, probably.

MsCactus · 18/09/2024 17:20

I'm a size 8.

I don't eat breakfast but have a cup of tea with milk.

Eat lunch - anything I fancy. Today was fried chicken and chips. Other times a sandwich or soup. If I have a big meal like today I sometimes don't finish it

Afternoon snack - cake or shortbread or similar, with my cup of tea

Dinner - anything really. Last night was chicken and rice curry

Evening snack - X3 packets of crisps and some popcorn, plus a slice of bread as was hungry

I don't think I eat well. When I tracked my calories though it usually ends up around 1700 cals and I'm not hungry on that

MsCactus · 18/09/2024 17:22

I also do zero exercise but I have a fast paced job with presentations/stress etc and I actually read that lots of brain activity also burns calories (so maybe that's a thing)

Personally i've been IF for almost 2 years. I don't eat until 7:30pm and eat for like an hour a day really. i find it so much easier!

Me too I do 20 hour fast, obviously if am hungry I will eat but am not, have a 4 hour window to eat, drink ' bulletproof coffee, '
Size 8/10 have been for 10 years now, 62 years old, did a 40 hour fast last week, feel great, took me many years to find what worked for me but god the years of diet's, gym memberships, low self-esteem,

Hopefully op will get great advice on here

Droppit · 18/09/2024 17:25

I've been a size 10 most of my life and eat 3 good size meals plus lots of snacks - mixture of healthy and unhealthy. Some days I have an almost insatiable appetite. I think I must have a naturally high metabolism. I also shit a lot. Now I am a bit older I have become a size 12 as my hormones have changed.

My advice: try to eat a healthy diet because that is good for your body but honestly don't get obsessed by it. Your weight is written in your genes to some extent.
