Just wondering how much skinny people eat in a day and if I am over eating?

OP posts:
Mercurial123 · 18/09/2024 14:36

Size 10 isn't skinny if you're short.

TheCoralDog · 18/09/2024 14:37

Im an 8 and not much tbh! Im always being told to eat more but literally cba.
Hot choc with skinny milk for breakfast. usually an apple and a slice if toast and peanut butter for lunch. a biscuit and a few grapes about 4.
normal dinner like chicken kiev,peas/broccolli/asparagus in the evening. no pudding. water/coffee to drink.

renovationqueen · 18/09/2024 14:37

I am a size 10 and not 'skinny'. I don't eat from 7pm at night until 1pm on my lunch break. Normally have a chicken salad for lunch then some fruit as a snack. This means I can normally have whatever I want for dinner - as well as desert. I prefer to eat fewer times in a day so I can enjoy the foods I really enjoy.

Appleblum · 18/09/2024 14:40

My menu yesterday:

Breakfast
1 slice of toast with 1 scrambled egg

Snack
2 kit kat fingers

Lunch
Ham sandwich

Snack
Mcchicken with coke

Dinner
Rice with chicken, tofu and green vegetables

16 hours isn't that long. I've done longer occasionally. Fasting has many health benefits and helps with weight loss. If you google there's loads of info out there.

I was interested in your reasoning that's all, it's ok to say you don't feel comfortable sharing that 😊

For me, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I can't function without it and I just crave all day and want the undesirable snacks if I skip breakfast. I can skip lunch if my work day is too busy and it won't have the same effect but I just can't skip breakfast.

Maybe my body has just trained itself that way!

midgetastic · 18/09/2024 14:41

5ft 6 and post menopause so not exactly tall

Better than average muscle development and activity levels I would say

I honestly used to be the same! I couldn't do anything until I'd eaten breakfast as soon as I woke up. You can train yourself out of it. It'll take time and will be hard to start with but it's so worth it. I feel amazing.

Verite1 · 18/09/2024 14:47

I very rarely eat breakfast (just don’t get hungry in the morning) but will have a latte and a couple of cups of tea. Monday to Thursday usually a small lunch (soup or salad perhaps) then dinner can be anything (pasta, stir fry, curry, fish or meat and veg). I eat whatever I want on a weekend. I don’t eat biscuits or cake but have an occasional piece of chocolate. That’s because I don’t have a sweet tooth. I also don’t drink fizzy drinks as I don’t like them. My snack weakness is crisps but other than those I don’t usually eat between meals. I usually run two or three times a week and do Pilates as well. I have quite a slow metabolism unfortunately. I’m size 10, but definitely not skinny!

DoubleParent · 18/09/2024 14:49

Today -

Sausage sandwich for breakfast at work around 9am, but more usually I just have a cup of tea and two chocolate digestives as my breakfast about 10am. I had both of those today.

Tuna and tomato sandwich and McCain Microchips, and some homemade carrot cake for dinner. Can of coke.

Fish and chips for tea, probably another cup of tea and a biscuit.

Cheese on toast and cereal before bed. Apple and a banana somewhere through the day.

I run about 6 miles once a week, no other exercise really.

romany4 · 18/09/2024 14:53

I'm 5ft 4 and size 10.

Porridge with honey or banana for breakfast.
Toast or a sandwich for lunch

Dinner can be
Chicken or pork stir fry
Shepherd's pie
Lasagne
But mostly just plain meat or fish and veg

I have IBS so can't tolerate a lot of foods

What a strange response. As she said, intermittent fasting is quite popular and there is tonnes of info written about it if you are interested. She didn’t invent it, so it’s not to do with her reasoning or “being uncomfortable.” It’s just that it would derail the OP’s thread to go on about it and if you’re genuinely interested there are lots of resources out there.

A great example of we're all different.

I would consider this a serious binge style day and didn't eat this much crap when I was 22 stone!

I'm a bit jealous. Constantly watching what I eat.

I'm a 12 but today it will be:

Late breakfast - 0% fat Greek yogurt and berries, teaspoon almond butter.

Snack - Apple and spoon peanut butter.

Early Dinner - Boiled eggs X2. Potently a slice of sour dough depending on hunger.

Snack - Home made oat, nut and seed bar.

1x tea, 2x milky coffees with sugar.

Circa 1500 cals.

Whattodo1610 · 18/09/2024 14:57

You can’t judge yourself off others OP.
My 2 dd’s, both size 6-8, 1 tall, 1 short
Tall - poor appetite - L pesto pasta, D chicken in spices & rice, biscuit/chocolate.
Short - huge appetite, eats constant crap - B toast/cereal/sausage sandwich, L burger in bun/chicken nuggets & chips, D lasagne/curry/pie & mash, crisps, chocolate, biscuits, yogurt, cake

Garlicnaan · 18/09/2024 14:58

Typical days food:

Breakfast - greek yoghurt, berries, low sugar granola, or peanut butter on sourdough

Two or three coffees with oat milk

Lunch - a sandwich, or egg and avocado on toast- sometimes a meal deal. Have a bit of raw veg on the side.

Dinner - usually mostly homemade - veg curry and rice, pasta with lentil Bolognese, tacos with the trimmings, sausages with sweet potato wedges and green veggies

Snacks - something sweet eg couple of biscuits, a cake, flapjack, packet of crisps, slice of toast

Plus 1-2 pieces of fruit.

I don't drink much booze, don't do much exercise, don't have huge portions. I'm average height and a size 8-10.

DinosaurMunch · 18/09/2024 14:58

Large bowl (raw) porridge oats with milk - only thing that keeps me going till lunch!

Big cheese sandwich. Crisps. 3-5 pieces of fruit

Tea could be any normal tea such as sausages, pan fried chicken, pizza etc. usually plus rice or pasta or potatoes or chips plus salad or decent veg portion. I eat a decent portion at meal times

Will eat odd bit of choc or cake but don't have a sweet tooth so often don't want it. Crisps is a big weakness for me.

Drink tea coffee water plus occasional beer or AFB

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 18/09/2024 14:59

More the 10 than the 8 but been consistently same size most of my life. Would like to shift a couple of pounds but scared too much effort to do so will result in greater weight gain in future.

I've eaten a lot today

Two potato cakes for breakfast (unusual, they were reduced and quite small)
Overnight oats at 11with fruit
Swim in the north sea - makes me hungry
Beef sandwich
Just eaten two more potato cakes as more hungry than usual.

Will have spag bol for tea.

Oh and several cups of tea

cows2doggies · 18/09/2024 15:00

size 10 (very rarely an 8) and 5ft 9, I try to intermittent fast so don't always have breakfast. Yesterday I ate
Lunch - Ham and Cheese toastie at a cafe so probably more calories than at home
Dinner - Beef and Veggie stir fry with noodles
I ate a small packet of malteasers and a 250ml can of coke mid afternoon as I needed some sugar.
I did a spin class in the morning and a horse riding lesson in the afternoon, I generally find if I am active and intermittent fast most days I can get away with indulging a bit more

This is hardly any food, and definitely not 1500 cals... Have you missed something out?

There are no vegetables!

AllTheChaos · 18/09/2024 15:02

5’2”, pushing 50, size 4-6.
Using yesterday as a typical example:
Breakfast: small bowl of porridge and fresh fruit
Mid morning: satsuma
Lunch: Home made veg risotto (small portion) and a few squares of dark chocolate (3 maybe?)
Mid afternoon: avocado mashed on toast
Dinner: home made veg spag bol (medium portion, but eaten v slowly)
Before bed: banana
Plus lots and lots of unsweetened, black, caffein free tea.

AllTheChaos · 18/09/2024 15:03

And yes the toast is sourdough 😂

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 18/09/2024 15:05

I'm reading these thinking to myself wow if I was size 8 I wouldn't be bothered fasting or restricting myself. Literally missing the point 😁

This thread is insightful. Some of you are lucky, some truly deserve the slim bodies you have earned. Tall people really are double winners at life, they get to eat more before gaining weight and be tall all day everyday. I genuinely get jealous.

RubberDuckyURtheone · 18/09/2024 15:06

Not skinny but am usually a size 10. I am a very hungry person and do a fair bit of exercise but diet fairly good. Main things in my favour are probably: few incidental calories (the only things I drink are unsweetened black coffee or water- unless I'm having alcohol), am vegan so don't get tempted when biscuits /cakes are offered round as they're normally not suitable for me, eat lots of fibre (vegan). Otherwise I have a big appetite and could eat piles of chips and potatoes and pasta, I do have to watch my weight a bit because I love my food so much, particularly savoury stuff/carbs. Exercise crucial for me, particularly running and strength training.

hotcrossbun5 · 18/09/2024 15:06

I’m 5”3 and previously was a size 10 and ate whatever I wanted - but this was as a teen. I consumed about 3000 kcal a day, but I was very active. Small breakfast of a 5 weatabix, then a lunch of sushi, sandwiches, hot cross buns, small chocolate bar or two etc. then, I would eat a large portion of “comfort food” pasta, roast etc for dinner. Would scoff a lucozade and massive chocolate bar mid afternoon too. I was very toned and weighed about 75kg but had a flat stomach

now I’m in my 20s and about 54 kg. I’m a size 6-8 (although I’ve been travelling for three weeks and eating like a pig so no doubt a little heavier as the jeans are TIGHT). I have a couple of pastries for breakfast, some ramen and maybe veggie dippers or another snack for lunch, then a dinner of Italian food, a curry, etc all fresh cooked. Then a good dessert of chocolate or something. Usually eat lots of fruit and veg. I eat about 1800 calories a day usually, although right now I’m eating like I used to. I do about 7k to 20k steps a day and play badminton once or twice a week.

RubberDuckyURtheone · 18/09/2024 15:07

Oh and generally don't drink at home, I always pile on the weight if I'm drinking a glass or two of red at night so try not to.

IhateSPSS · 18/09/2024 15:07

I've been eating 1400 or less calories a day since Jan 2023 (after a surgical menopause), 5 foot 4 and I'm a size 8 on top and a bigger 10 on my bum/hips (I fluctuate between 37-39 inch hips and carry all my weight on my bum and thighs). I walk 35-40 miles a week up hills. Restrict sugar.

Nobody (including myself) would say I'm skinny. I'm pretty sure it's the way weight distributes on your body. If I ate what some eat here I'd be very big but I'm sure they'd look slimmer than me. It definitely makes a difference to what you put in but hormones and genetics is the biggest measure. I have the short, Irish bottom heavy barrel look to me and so does my Mum, brother and sister.
