To ask what you eat in a day if you are a size 10 or less

Just wondering how much skinny people eat in a day and if I am over eating?

OP posts:
LoveHearts69 · 18/09/2024 15:07

I was always a size 8, now more of a 10 after children…definitely not skinny though! I usually have something like peanut butter on toast for breakfast, noodles or ham roll or something for lunch and then I’ll have a large portion of home cooked dinner, usually something like spag bol, chilli or some sort of chicken and potatoes! I’m more savoury so would much prefer a large portion of dinner than having dessert.

I do have sugar in my coffees which I want to cut down on and probably drink too much wine! I do get out at weekends for long walks when I can.

depends... ?

i know people tend to snigger and make jokes of fat people, but you do know that skinny people also feel bad about their bodies too.

i know one skinny person who eats way more than i do, but they are still skinny yet i am constantly on a diet and over weight!

i do think there is a link to genetics.. they say 'big boned' is not real but i think it is. my grandmother was 'statuesque' my mother was 'statuesque' and i look exactly like they did and i have to work really really hard to keep my weight under control.

BobbyBiscuits · 18/09/2024 15:08

It's hard to answer your question when we don't know what you're eating?

I'm underweight, and have issues with eating regularly. I have anorexia but in recovery. So I guess it's a bit different to a healthy slim person maintaining. But I'm doing really well.

I make sure to try and eat around 2000 cals a day.
But it's a bit hard so some days it's a lot less.

Usually I have two meals. One small, one large.
Things like baked chicken with peppers, new potatoes, broccoli, carrots.

Or pizza, but usually one lasts me a couple of days.

I love fish, so salmon with veg or smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels are a regular.

I also love making bean salad and lentil and beetroot salad, and served those with fish or meat and flatbread.

I love potatoes and try and eat them every day, usually with dinner.

I tend to have salad with every meal, lettuce, cucumber, spring onions. But I hate tomatoes!

I love really nice bread so try and havea bit of that each day. I found when I cut out wheat and gluten my weight got dangerously low.

I do drink a couple of cans of coke a week and have tea with milk and sugar each morning.

I snack on crisps, cashews and sometimes biscuits or chocolate. I've not got a big sweet tooth. But only a small portion.

FaiIureToLunch · 18/09/2024 15:10

Just track it on MFP.

I have an ham/cheese omelette every day after the gym and it normally keeps me going until 6pm.

Then I usually have meat and veg

I don’t drink alcohol which I think must help

NasiDagang · 18/09/2024 15:10

A vegan diet and I've lost a lot of weight. It's cheaper as well.

Destiny123 · 18/09/2024 15:11

8-10. Breakfast on days I don't work lidl fake Bran flakes lol. Work days nothing (sometimes yoghurt and fruit or banana on train if can be bothered

lunch is a Chinese take away tub of pasta/chicken/veg or left over stirfry/left over spaghetti bol etc.

Tea lasagna jacket potato stir fry that sorta thing. Snacks 2 satsumas and an apple a day. In summer when my apple tree goes mad maybe 5 apples a day lol sometimes 2x plain rice cakes

What a strange response. As she said, intermittent fasting is quite popular and there is tonnes of info written about it if you are interested. She didn’t invent it, so it’s not to do with her reasoning or “being uncomfortable.” It’s just that it would derail the OP’s thread to go on about it and if you’re genuinely interested there are lots of resources out there.

I don't understand what was strange about my response.

Being the individuals that we all are, we all have individual reasons for making the choices that we do. I was curious about that posters reason for their choice, which they have chosen not to share it, which I respect. And that's fine. 😊

Is respect really so strange?

VelvetChaise · 18/09/2024 15:13

Q124 · 18/09/2024 14:11

I'm a size 8/10 and am not skinny.
I intermittent fast so I don't eat anything between 8pm and 12pm. I eat pretty much anything i want in my eating period. We don't eat ready meals or fizzy drinks, not sure whether that has anything to do with it?

I also do this.

Just wondering how much skinny people eat in a day and if I am over eating?

Is size 10 the magic number for you OP?
What height are you?
What stage of life are you?
Do you exercise?
How is your weight distributed?
Do you have any idea of your body fat %?
Do you have any metabolic or hormonal conditions eg. thyroid problems?
What size are you currently?

10 is a meaningless number on its own.

LoserWinner · 18/09/2024 15:14

Size 8 here, mid 60s.

I don’t do breakfast. Ever.

If I’m going to the gym, lunch is muesli, Greek yoghurt and fruit. If not, something with small salad or coleslaw (today it was anchovies and half a tub of coleslaw). Usually around 350 calories either way).

Dinner may be one of the following:
large, leafy-grainy-seedy salad with cheese, eggs, chicken or smoked salmon
large traditional salad ditto
mushroom chilli and flatbread
home-made paneer curry and cauliflower rice
shakshuka
tuna nicoise
spaghetti aglio e olio
sausages and beans
lemon sole and broccoli
mushroom stir-fry
…all with a glass of wine
(but if I’m out in the evening and not eating out, it’s soup, a half-baguette and butter)

Then one from
raspberries
blueberries
strawberries
mini tub of ice-cream
greek yoghurt with granola & tsp jam
Small bought cake (I love Pret lemon and polenta cake)
very occasionally, baklava.

I don’t generally snack at all, but if I’ve had a particularly heavy gym session and I’m going on to something afterwards, I have an oat cookie of some sort.

JumpstartMondays · 18/09/2024 14:28

Wow really? So you don't eat breakfast the next morning and just power on through from 8pm in the evening until 12pm lunch next day? 16hrs is a long time to withhold food for, especially doing it daily! What's your reasoning behind the fasting if I'm allowed to ask?

Personally i've been IF for almost 2 years. I don't eat until 7:30pm and eat for like an hour a day really. i find it so much easier!

GiddyRobin · 18/09/2024 15:16

I'm a size 6 - 8 and 5'4. It can vary!

Yesterday I had:

Breakfast: Homemade toast (2 slices) with butter, egg, and grilled tomatoes. Cup of tea.

Lunch: Homemade minestrone soup and some grapes. Black coffee with 3 sugars.

Dinner: Cod, fried beef tomatoes, new potatoes, tenderstem broccoli. Had an apple later.

Today:

Breakfast: Yoghurt and homemade granola with berries.

Lunch: Tuna salad sandwich on homemade bread. An apple.

Dinner will be a salmon salad. Two of those thinner fillets of salmon, pan fried. Grilled tomatoes, ribbons of carrot, olives, beetroot, rocket, watercress, spinach, sweetcorn, cucumber, and some new potatoes.

No idea how much water I drink, but it's a lot. I must fill my bottle about 5 times a day. I workout about an hour and a half a day, yoga and cycling either outside or on a stationary bike.

WhereAreWeNow · 18/09/2024 15:17

Breakfast:Porridge or toast
Snack: biscuits
Lunch: sushi or something light
Snacks: too many
Dinner: smallish portion of something simple and veggie (beans on toast, jacket potato and cheese, a pasta dish)

Basically, too many of my calories come from chocolate and not enough from proper meals.

Q124 · 18/09/2024 14:44

I honestly used to be the same! I couldn't do anything until I'd eaten breakfast as soon as I woke up. You can train yourself out of it. It'll take time and will be hard to start with but it's so worth it. I feel amazing.

Really? I can't imagine not being so hangry in the morning! It would definitely make my mornings easier by not taking time to have breakfast though. Did it take you a long time to train yourself out of it?

Waffle78 · 18/09/2024 15:18

I'm a size 12 now but I eat the same I do when I was an 8-10. I'm 46 now so my metabolism is slowing down. But if your hungry between meals sometimes you actually need a drink. So I have a drink of water before having a snack.

Alwaystired94 · 18/09/2024 15:18

but for me - i stick to around 1200 calories a day as my TDEE is so low now :(
But i've lost 79/80lbs to get here so!

but i do One Meal A day so usually kinda have what i want. Spaghetti Bolognese, Salmon Firecracker rice etc.

AlexandraJJ · 18/09/2024 15:19

I’m a size 6-8. I don’t always eat everyday. I try to keep it healthy and take in 800-1000 calories a day. I mostly eat once a day but only if I’m hungry. I’ve never needed a lot of food and ate more post pregnancy for a long time but that’s stopped now. I don’t deny myself anything but tend not to eat sugary things, I prefer savory. I rarely drink alcohol anymore and have reduced my caffeine consumption as it fills me up. I had pcos and prone to IBS c and the symptoms are vastly reduced by eating food that has a lot of water content. I don’t eat fruit as it bungs me up but do try to eat fresh food salad/veg and protein.

It took me no time but my husband longer. He just kept pushing breakfast back 30 mins or so every couple of days until it clashed with lunch

plasticmack · 18/09/2024 15:21

I generally don't eat after 8 in the evening and will go all night and till say lunchtime at 1 in the afternoon before eating again.

Between these times I eat what I want without restriction, but having said that I don't eat processed food because I live in and come from a culture where we mostly cook from scratch.

I don't do this to stay at a certain weight. I just don't ever feel hungry outside of these times, and have had a stable weight for more than 25 years without trying.

LaundryShoulderBag · 18/09/2024 15:21

Garlicnaan · 18/09/2024 15:00

This is hardly any food, and definitely not 1500 cals... Have you missed something out?

There are no vegetables!

I didn't list the butter on the sourdough and likely spoon of crispy chilli on the eggs!

Yes probably only 4/5 plant portions.
Would usually eat veg for lunch or dinner but have a hobby tonight hence the eggs for early dinner and snack bar in the evening... Rather than one meal.

Promise it's 1500 cals. Two sweet milky coffees are nearly 400 cals alone.

LadyKenya · 18/09/2024 15:22

I usually have a banana for breakfast, and a hot drink. Lunch is usually a roll with a filling of egg mayo, or a salad consisting of pasta, mixed with chopped peppers, tinned makeral, or tuna, a boiled egg, and beetroot on the side. Dinner would be something like a stew, or burgers, and chips. Nearly all my meals are made from scratch, including the egg mayo, or tuna mayo for jacket potatoes, for example. I make sweet things like cakes, buns, crumbles etc. I love potatoes, and eat lots of mash, and chips. I very rarely use ready made products, and only eat out once in a blue moon socially. I never order takeaways. The quality of food is very important to me, and I spend quite a bit on it, things such as organic meat, etc. I do not eat meat everyday, and quite happily have lots of non meat meals. I do not tend to snack, but I always have something that I have baked in the house.

Do you go for whole days without eating? I'm not a doctor but I wouldn't have thought 800 calories would be considered "healthy" for an adult woman, especially if you're not overweight/trying to lose weight.

Minikievs · 18/09/2024 15:23

Today :
Greek yoghurt with strawberries and granola
Some fresh coconut
Half a tin of beans with some grated cheese on buttered sourdough toast
A kiwi
A small chicken sizzle steak (this is not usual, just left over from dinner last night)
Dinner will be half a microwave pouch of rice with tomatoes, cucumber, sweetcorn, broccoli and green beans mixed in, with two sweet chilli chicken skewers
Probably a couple of bourbons or choc digestives with a cup of tea later

PussGirl · 18/09/2024 15:24

I’m size 8-10 depending on make. 5’4” and 57kg.

Two meals a day usually. Breakfast or brunch/ lunch of eggs, yogurt plus bacon sometimes, plus granary toast at the weekend. Fresh fruit.

Home cooked evening meal with lots of veg, some protein and carbs, fish or meat, sometimes veggie. Pudding at the weekend - small portion of homemade crumble / fruit pie / pavlova

I hardly ever snack between meals but occasionally have homemade cake especially at the weekend.

Cheeseandcrackers40 · 18/09/2024 15:25
