To go to the gym 11 miles away?

Do I go to the little more expensive but fully equipped 24 hour gym with pool/sauna/classes facilities which is 20 min drive or do I go to the one 3 miles away but run down and always busy gym?

I do an hour round trip to my gym three times a week. It works for me and I’d never change unless I absolutely had to.

I do it at home. My travelling and faffing time would be about the same as my entire session at home.

If you have time go to the nicer further away one

Isn't this a decision for you to make based on your own preferences? Some people hate driving, and would hate a 20 minute journey, others wouldn't mind at all. So you just have to know your own preferences.

I have just quit the 25 minute drive away gym for the third time. It is the only one I really like so I keep going back thinking “this time I will go more” but the distance means I just don’t go often enough to make it worthwhile (they raised their prices again recently).

Having said that I think you won’t go to the run down and busy gym often either because you just won’t like it so if you are strict with yourself and can make multiple weekly visits to the expensive one maybe give it a go as long as they don’t have a lock in contract.

The only time I've ever been to the gym regularly was when it was between my house and my work and I kept a packed bag in my car

This is a great article gretchenrubin.com/articles/a-big-reason-why-people-dont-exercise/

Go to the one you think you'll use regularly. Sounds like you're leaning towards the one further away. That one may take more time to get to but maybe the closer one will take more time to get your workout done if it's really busy. Could even out in the end so might as well go to the nicer place.
