To find that annoying when your 27/ 28
Now 38 hearing nearly 40.
Maybe the 7,8,9 s shouldn't exist. !!
2 or 3 years is a long enough time imo.
In my head I'm eye rolling.
Is 29 not as interesting as 30?
Is 38 just seen as 40?
Is 57 just 60?

I know what you mean although in my case I'm doing it to myself, thinking about 'hmm now I'm coming up to 40'. My friends of the same age are doing it too so I've jokingly put us on a ban from talking about it. Not that it's bad to be 40, but why rush it. When I was 36 I didn't spend time thinking hmm guess I'll be turning 38 soon.

Its a bit like when the christmas decorations start coming out in the shops in September.

Indeed, life is short so why live in the future rather than the present.

Why not enjoy every month of 29 / 39/ 49 rather than discussing time ahead.
In my mind they are the weird people. Should get a hobby or something.
And Christmas talk is tedious.

@ParisVSLille oh don't be silly

I get you OP, people are weird about ages these days. Even a 35 year old is described as "nearly 40" or "middle-aged" now-since when was mid-30s middle aged?!

Agreed, I'm my age not older or younger 😆 I'll be 40/50/60 when I am that age

Skyrainlight · 17/09/2024 11:09

I agree with you, it annoys me too.

RedheadedSoulStealer · 17/09/2024 11:14

I despise it because people do it to women in an "ooh, you're nearly 40" way... like "oooooh, only a few more years until you are OLD OLD OLD.

It is always said with a smug little smile.

Agreed, I feel like people always do it as a dig not just as a matter of fact.

Bloom15 · 17/09/2024 13:26

Well you are 'nearly' 30. Although I did freak out when I was 30 so I understand.

I am 44 and on my 40h birthday a woman in work said I was now in my 50th decade. Thanks for that!

Honestly given your obsession over it, I'm not sure it other people who need a hobby.

By all means say "actuat I'm only 87, not 90!" but they aren't factually incorrect. In the scheme of 87 years, three is only a tiny moment away

Indeed. Or in a you haven't achieved enough.
Men don't get it, half as much.
I haven't won the lottery or climbed a mountain. .

Probably insecure to say that.

Sounds difficult.
