Are you glad you voted Labour ?

Sir Keir is firmly in his new seat and appears to be making waves... winter fuel, VAT on private school fees, UEFA watchdog type scenario, budgets... increase in CGT, 20% increase for Jr doctors, immigration learnings from Italy to pay other countries to take Immigrants and that's only what I briefly followed.
So my question is - are you still glad you voted Labour, or that they are in Power if you didn't? And what if you are not happy anymore - why ?
I'm on the fence so trying to be objective ;-)

I’m off to bed now, but if anyone here thinks that if their rented home will be better off owned by a local authority, BlackRock or a pension fund, then good luck getting anything repaired quickly (and they have big legal departments and funds to evict tenants if needed). Appreciate that there are some useless, dodgy small landlords out there.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 17/09/2024 01:48

The damage the Tories did will take decades to repair. A Labour government is a good start. I voted Green though.

Endiof · 17/09/2024 05:19

They do probably need to go back to the 40% tax cut off for child benefit after the tories put it up to I think 80k, why does anyone on £80k need child benefit, it should really be set at about £40k, which is above median wage but I guess the tax cut of points are easier to administer so £50k. I don't know why they didn't do the WFA at the tax cut off point of £12570. Hopefully CB will be addressed in the budget

@Miley1967 Re: Pension Credit
Thanks for that detailed reply.

Didimum · 17/09/2024 07:40

Yes, very pleased with their decisions so far.

Zonder · 17/09/2024 07:53

Radio 4 just saying Britain is sick apparently. Sicker than ever. I wouldn't want to be in Labours shoes trying to deal with that.

Taking a winter fuel payment away from elderly people is a 'fantastic start'?!?

Wow, this country really is fucked...

This!

SocksAndTheCity · 17/09/2024 08:24

Yes, very much so. HTH.

Does anyone really expect to like EVERY decision a party they have voted for makes? I'm not keen on the WFA policy (but wealthy pensioners shouldn't get it either) and plans for the NHS. I think they have had a shit point to start from though which isn't their fault.

No but I expect to like some of them…

Kaete · 17/09/2024 18:16

I didn't vote Labour (didn't vote Tory or any of the extreme parties like Reform either), but since it was a two horse race I'm very glad they won. I'd have Labour over the Tories any day of the week.

Here4thechocs · 17/09/2024 18:24

Absolutely yes.

OonaStubbs · 17/09/2024 18:40

Labour are the best of a bad bunch. I don't understand people who get all enthusiastic about any politician. Nothing much will ever change.

TheGoldenGate · 17/09/2024 18:50

I voted Lib Dem, even more to the left and I would vote this way again

Belle82 · 18/09/2024 13:19

No. I’m quite sad that reform didn't get more seats in parliament. This country is now fully left wing and I don’t know of anyone who is happy with it.

A quote i heard a while ago has stuck with me.
Labour didn’t win on their manifesto, conservative lost.
I agree C needed to get out but i think a coalition would be better than these heartless left wing MP’s.

ScholesPanda · 18/09/2024 13:23

Yes. Ask me again in year 4 when I will be weighing up how they've performed and whether I feel better off and the country seems in a better place.

randomchap · 18/09/2024 13:25

I'm not sure you understand what fully left wing is.

Starmer is hardly seizing the means of production for the proletariat.

Hyperbolic statements like heartless left wing mps don't encourage sensible discussion

What have they done that is heartless? Admittedly they have set the bar too low for the WFA, but heartless is a bit dramatic.

You know of plenty of people who're happy about it - at least two thirds of the people commenting on this thread, for a start.

luckylavender · 18/09/2024 15:05

Yes. So much of the stuff coming out is the right wing media.

SherbetSweeties · 18/09/2024 15:12

These are the reasons I didn't and would never vote Labour.

Rummly · 18/09/2024 15:12

The BBC’s reporting that Sue Gray has demanded and got a pay rise of at least £25k above her predecessor’s salary. She now earns more than the PM. She’s on £170k.

Nice work if you can get it.

Snouts, troughs, Labour…

rainfallpurevividcat · 18/09/2024 15:13

Yes.

Give me a hard question.

What predecessor? She’s the first Labour chief of staff for 15 years.

Her predecessor as chief of staff to the PM.

"Snouts, troughs, Labour"

...really? After, among other things, the billions on PPE contracts to "politically connected" companies, a few grand over the previous salary bands is where you draw the line?
