JoyousPinkPeer · 16/09/2024 08:33

Will Huw get a worse/lighter sentencing today because of his fame?

YABU ... Worse sentence
YANBU ... Lighter setence

Aparantly his poor upbringing was compounded by going to Cardiff University and not Oxford.

"This created an "enduring cognitive dissonance and low self-esteem", which was "compounded by a sense of being inferior" by not getting into Oxford University and going to Cardiff instead and "being therefore something of an outsider at the BBC"

That is ridiculous

I accept he received this sentence which is inline with current guidelines. Whether we agree with them or not.

But he also has his own sentence to deal with for the rest of his life. His fall from grace is spectacular, his reputation in tatters. His wife has left him. I feel so very sorry for his adult children and what they are going through. His former friends are not going to be supportive. He has brought all of this on himself and knows it. His own sentence has some magnitude.

His demons must haunt him immeasurably. And he now has to live with this for the rest of his life. That sentence is far far longer than a custodial of whatever months. And all for revolting sexual desires.

It is also right that children’s charities are speaking out about the injustices and innocent victims of this awful trade and sharing of despicable images. There are no easy answers.

His demons must haunt him immeasurably. And he now has to live with this for the rest of his life. That sentence is far far longer than a custodial of whatever months. And all for revolting sexual desires.

I somehow doubt that arrogant bastard will spend another second of his life regretting what he has done.

crumblingschools · 16/09/2024 15:22

@ncforcatquestion it's still illegal if the child was 16, the age limit for explicit pictures is 18. That's why teens can get into bother sending nudes to each other

Which leads to becoming a paedophile?!!

Some fucking terrible cognitive dissonance going on in this rotten criminal justice system.

its only the Senior Managers and 'talent' that gets the big money. Most of the staff are just ordinary. I'm sure a BBC staffer will tell us more

I’m actually talking about presenters - Gary Lineker, Zoe Ball, HE etc., not assistants, admin staff et al.
Sorry I didn’t make that clear!

That is a cheap snd nasty shot and not what Blossomtoes said. She said he was sentenced within the guidelines. Which is the case, whether we like it or not.

No she/he said people were being over the top being horrified by the sentence.

Bbomb · 16/09/2024 16:07

I feel so angry about his 6 months suspended sentence.
I guess this is the norm but still really angers me

AGirlInACountrySong · 16/09/2024 16:08

What would have been an appropriate sentence then?

Gogosmarty · 16/09/2024 16:16

BIossomtoes · Today 13:13
'Oh do stop it. These posts are completely over the top. He’s pleaded guilty and been sentenced in line with sentencing guidelines.'

Well that's all right then. I mean if the guidance says that paedophiles deserve 6 months suspended sentences then It's the rest of us who are out of line.
Apparently he's a suicide risk. Weird that he'd be suicidal over be found out for something so innocuous that it only warrants 6 months suspended sentence. What a sensitive soul this man who paid money for images of children being abused, is...

ncforcatquestion · 16/09/2024 16:19

I'm not really convinced of his guilt to be honest. Could he have had bad legal advice ? It's all a bit vague

If someone's sent this without him asking ? And in with hundreds of normal legal photos

It's hard to tell what he was thinking only he will know that I guess

AGirlInACountrySong · 16/09/2024 16:20

If he's a suicide risk he would actually be safer in prison ironically!

TitusMoan · 16/09/2024 16:24

Molly499 · 16/09/2024 14:36

Of course it's not normal behaviour, its disgusting. I am just saying that looking at pictures that young people themselves have shared online is a lot less disgusting than watching vile videos where children have been abused for these sick people.

Are you completely nuts? How damaged is a child going to be when they grow up and realise what they were doing? And how has that child ended up supplying images to a pervert in the first place? You must simply have no imagination at all. What’s wrong with you?

ncforcatquestion · 16/09/2024 16:31

If it was intentional though he should have got jail

Nothing wrong with me, just surprised at some of the hysteria on here. The responsibility for children posting images online is down to bad parenting.

In the scale of crimes of this nature this is actually pretty minor. More energy should go into changing the justice system so that people that harm children should get a proper punishment, it's the system that is broken. Seems like you have to be on a saville scale to actually go to prison.

Fizbosshoes · 16/09/2024 16:49

I listened to 5 live, reporting on the case, I presume accurately as it was in real time.

I can't remember the exact wording but when further images were offered he replied inferring he wanted to see them. He was not a passive bystander being bombarded with pics he didn't want.

Even if most if the pictures were self directed or selfies, I'm not sure that makes it a whole lot better. The fact that there is a market for explicit pics of underage children is gross and perverted, in itself, whoever took the pics....and who knows how they came into the position to have been persuaded to take them (potentially groomed or in abusive situations) let alone be distributed to multiple people paedos

I've read that the other man had said do you want to see this she's young and he said ok. If that's accurate it's very hard to say what exactly he was thinking, although he must have known the potentialities of that

Paul2023 · 16/09/2024 16:54

Not much of a consolation I know - but he does have a criminal record. His reputation is destroyed- I’d argue that’s worse than going to prison for a few months ..

He’ll always be known for his offences.

Gogosmarty · 16/09/2024 17:02

'Nothing wrong with me, just surprised at some of the hysteria on here. The responsibility for children posting images online is down to bad parenting.'

Ah, so not the paedos fault at all, either those attention seeking kiddies ( or were they co-erced, groomed or bullied, or who cares!) or their feckless parents. Got it.

And the ones with 'penetration' ... if there's less of those, it's okay? Or was that 7 year old in the images just asking for it somehow?

Even though he admitted it? And PAID for the images? And when told they were too young or illegal said 'oh go on then' and called the images amazing? Are you for real? It's not bad legal advice, in fact he's got the very best money can buy, clearly. Because they're just looking at what was on his phone and nothing else...

Eh?... so he pays a man to send him pictures of young people and when he receives these vile images he does not immediately contact the Police he just says make sure what you send is legal. He had no remorse or concern for the children involved in this trade and this after he had already been called out for getting a very young adult to send him lewd pictures. Edwards is very guilty indeed.

I'm not sure but I have a feeling he might just be an idiot. He didn't specifically ask or agree to see anything illegal, but agreed to see a photo of someone "young" after previously being sent illegal photos by that man in amongst other photos. It doesn't look good but I just felt there was something off today with him apologising as if this is the kind of thing you can say sorry for

rockingbird · 16/09/2024 17:12

This boils my piss quite frankly! He's hidden away using the mental healthy card. This will all be brushed under the carpet and he'll hide away like the other shamed celebrities before him. I actually used to think he was one of the good guys - how frigging wrong was I.! Anyway I won't be happy until all these filthy barstards are stoned to death naked in the street and that's unlikely. As you were people 🤣

Bollihobs · 16/09/2024 17:13

Sinisterdexter · 16/09/2024 09:10

I think he’ll get a suspended sentence.
His wages from the BBC will have paid for the best barrister who I’m sure has mitigated HE’s offences.
He couldn’t help it mi’lord, his mental health made him look at indecent images.

It’s an insult to all the law abiding citizens who struggle daily with their mh.

Apparently, according to his Barrister, it's all OK because "due to his mental health issues"......he doesn't remember looking at any of the material!!!

Well that's alright then. 🙄

ncforcatquestion · 16/09/2024 17:16

And what was that about making indecent images ? That his lawyer had him plead guilty to but said he never did at the same time
