YANBU!

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 15:21

no YANBU, if he hasn't got the good grace to turn it off and have a conversation with you sod him

can you not invite them to yours?

saying that my fil waltzes in here once a year and sits glued to sky sports news or behind a paper for the duration

drives me bonkers

MadameCh0let · 20/04/2008 15:22

Not at all! sounds really boring. there's a limit to the boredom you can endure.

poppy34 · 20/04/2008 15:33

that is quite bad although I must admit I was expecting something like FIL was going to do a slideshow of holiday snaps.

And not just boring but rude -YANBU

donbean · 20/04/2008 19:26

and we got there and yes....football on, ds who is 5 and hyperactive was a very bored very retlsess little chap.
had football on all through the meal, then bike racing.
this is the fil who wouldnt take ds to the cinema because footy was on one sat. mil took him by herself...we paid and thought it would be nce because they hadnt seen ds (their only gc) for 3 months. (they live 20 mins away.RAT BAGS

When they visit you, sit staring at Cbeebies for three hours. Nobody move. Nobody go to the loo. No tea, no cake. Just stare at the screen. NO talking either.

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 19:28

tell dh in future they can come to you. end of. tv off during meal times and if he wants to watch his precious football he can stay at home

are we related per chance?!??

itsahardknocklife · 20/04/2008 19:43

oh god my fil has the tv on so loud, both at his house and when he comes here. It drives me mad.

donbean · 20/04/2008 19:46

madamCholet..that is the best suggestion EVER.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 19:47

mine has it on sky sports news ffs - its the same thing over and over and over again and we're 'lucky' if they visit once a year

I took the remote off him once and turned the tv off, he stomped off out the patio doors and disappeared for 2 hours in a huff

the silence was golden

colander · 20/04/2008 19:50

fil does the same - although not too loudly - just as background noise. It drives me up the wall, as I was brought up that if guests are here the TV is OFF!

He even wanted me to put our TV on during DD1's 2nd birthday party to check the football scores. Umm, no, it's a party!!

He's nice in all other aspects though, so I'm lucky.

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 19:52

mine checks it inbetween courses at dinner ffs

inbetween arguing whether or not you can buy asparagus in ireland wtf?!?!?

itsahardknocklife · 20/04/2008 19:54

lol at dizzy's fil!

When he's not watchin tv too loudly, my fil moans about Polish people being in England. He knows full well that my father is Polish.

MadameCh0let · 20/04/2008 19:57

Tell him you can but not everywhere. In Superquinn probably! Irish people aren't fooled by asparagus. It's the emperor's clothes of the vegetable world. It's yuck.

itsahardknocklife · 20/04/2008 19:58

I like asparagus.

MadameCh0let · 20/04/2008 20:00

I can eat it, but I'm underwhelmed by it!

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 20:00

me too but not the way it makes you pee smell lol

MadameCh0let · 20/04/2008 20:01

itsahardknocklife, I'd say "well never mind polish people in England, there's one in your sitting room, shall I leave? I can if you like"!!!!!!!!!!

itsahardknocklife · 20/04/2008 20:06

I've told him and told him, he still moans about Polish people coming over here. I say tings like 'if Polish people didn't come here you wouldn't have a grandchild', but it doesn't sink in. He can't help being thick! Tee hee.

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 20:12

am quite convinced mine isn't quite 'all there' either

LazyLinePainterJane · 20/04/2008 20:15

When we visit, FIL spends most of his time watching stuff like Dancing on Ice and other shitey reality shows whilst moaning about how shitey all reality shows are...saying that it can't be called entertainment, all the while sitting engrossed in it...
