Talented Nepo Babies

On the back of a thread I've just started reading, who do you think is a nepo baby, but extremely talented?

I'll start with two, number one, Roman Kemp. I saw him presenting The One Show and had no idea who he was. I thought he was naturally good at presenting, really engaging and nice. I then heard him on his podcast with his dad, and found him incredibly funny
Second person is Lily Allen, although I've never seen her act, her music is brilliant, and although I like her dad, (her mum is famous too, but I don't know much about her) I think she is way cleverer than her dad. Sorry, Keith! Her podcast with Miquita is great too. Such a bright woman.

Any other takers?

Jared Harris. I think he is a better actor than his dad was.

I just had to Google who he was related to... didn't put 2 and 2 together. Agree that he's the better actor.

Is it fair to call them ‘nepo babies’ if they have been successful from their own hard work and talent? Aren’t they instead just someone who has a famous parent? I think of nepo babies as those who are famous just because of their famous relatives.

Lily Alllen for example - her dad had absolutely nothing to do with her success. He was barely around when she was a child and did a piss-poor job when he was. It’s just a well used media narrative to imply she got a leg up because of him.

Yeah it's not fair really, and a talented parent is quite likely to produce a talented offspring.

I don't suppose it does any harm, though, in most cases, to have those connections.

Lily Allen are you on glue

Haha! Yes I love her. I can see why people wouldn't, but look at her single The Fear. Absolutely bang on and still relevant today.

Absolutely spot on. She also pointed out that her brother is never referred to as a nepo baby, whereas she is. That's another thread though!

Have you read Lily's biography? She doesn't rate her Dad too highley

tothelefttotheleft · 15/09/2024 20:46

@NZDreaming

Her dad doesn't need to do anything. Her surname gives her a foot in the door.
